We have a struggle getting our girls to sleep every night, and then they wake up constantly in the night snorting and struggling to breathe. This has been going on since they were about two months old. They've had a series of colds (it's not allergies, as it continues when we are not at home). We've tried:
Â
- humidifier
- eucalyptus oil
- having them sleep in bed
- having them sleep in their crib
- hats and sweaters
- saline in the noses
- crib up at an angle
- putting the car seats in the crib
Â
Nursing clears their noses, and they generally go back to sleep, especially if I can catch them quickly and they don't both wake at the same time. One baby can sleep propped up on pillows or my arm, but I can't do that with both babies at the same time, so I have to switch back and forth when they wake. But sometimes it's every hour for each baby.
Â
On the few nights they haven't had sniffly noses, they sleep through until 5. I can cope with that, but the constant waking right now makes me feel like I have wakeful quads.
Â
Any suggestions on how to convince them to sleep longer stretches? Or get sick less often? I think about drastic measures, but I don't see how they could work for babies who wake up not breathing properly. But I'm starting to feel like I need to hire a night nanny.
