Vbac after 2 csections?

Hi, ok so my first son was an emergency csection due to placenta previa, the doctors in my town told me a c section was the only way with my second, so i ended up going four hours away to another hospital, mostly because with my first son that's where i had him due too the high risk, and me not accepting blood it was the only hospital on the island that supplies different alternatives than blood transfusion. 

When i was about too have my second son the Dr said i could do a vbac it would be slightly more high risk due too the fact my first son was only 20 months old when number two was being born. there was no pregnancy issues, and he said i would be a good candidate. 

so, 1.can you have a vbac after two csections after one was high risk, and 2. how long would one wait, cause my Dr said 5 years and i think that's slightly an exaggeration.

If the only reason your pregnancy with #1 was high risk was previa, and a subsequent pregnancy did not have that complication, then I would say that there would be no reason not to be allowed a trial of labor.  Even ACOG (super conservative) now recommends a TOL after 2 c/s for low-risk mamas which, from what you say, you seem to be. (I am assuming that the blood transfusion need was related to the previa and not an underlying condition, of course.)

I think that 5 years is a gross exaggeration as well, but I don't have any sources to back that up. I do know that most drs. recommend at least 18 months between a c/s and VBAC.

Yes, five years is a crazy exaggeration. 18 -24 months is generally considered best, though women have VBACed after less time. I had an HBA2C a month ago, and my son was only 18 months old.

My first was high-risk due to toxemia and pregnany induced hypertension, and I had no problems with #2. I was called "high-risk" by my HMO OBs because of a velamontous (marginal) cord insertion in the lower segment, but in the end the admitted that their real reason for constantly recommending a RCS was because of the 2 prior c/s. they quoted me a 5% risk of UR but the actual figures are between 0.9 and 1.2%, depending on which credible study you read. (the 5% they quoted me was from a now discredited study which wasn'tproperly controlled.)

I think that 5 years is just some random number he threw at you!

I read that the uterus is going to do all the healing it's going to do after the first 3-6 months (or earlier).

I like to child space much longer so that my babies have exclusive b'feeding rights for as long as possible.

I had a VBA2C at home.  I hired midwives experienced in VBAC.  It was a great experience.  Not what I thought birth would be like, but certainly amazing in it's own way.

Do lots of VBAC reading and find some great midwives.  Listen to your body and do lots of great pre conception care, supplements, diet changes, exercise etc so you will be in great shape.  Being fit and active goes a long way in a straightforward birth.  My aim this 4th time around is another VBAC at home and I want to me way fitter so I can recover much faster.

I agree with PP. I had a HBA3C almost 18 months ago, with 20 months in between. Granted I was at home, but my midwife was most concerned about 2 things...1. that I was at least 18 months from my previous c/s and 2. that I was 30 min or less from a hospital (something she requires of all of her VBAC moms). The things she was least concerned about were the number of scars I had on my uterus (in fact that's how our state law reads...they don't care so much that you have 5 scars on your uterus but that you have had a successful vag birth. If you have a vag birth and then 5 c/s you're still okay to try for a VBAC at home. :) ).
