Yes! That's a GREAT recipe, moremadder! I used to make a big batch of that same salad EVERY week and had it for lunch almost daily (until this pregnancy made me dislike quinoa unfortunately)..... someday I will be back to eating it again on a regular basis!
What did you eat today? - Page 7
So far cereal, banana, yogurt and whole wheat noodles and a small portion of homemade nachos with spinach, jalapenos, and black beans. Handful of raw almonds, small plate full of raw broccoli, and deciding what else right now. Eating more cereal sounds easy, but I think I can do healthier than that.
A salad sounds nice but I am really wanting an extremely spicy black bean quesadilla. Maybe a small quesadilla and a small simple salad, best of both worlds. Then again a bowl of cereal sounds so much easier prep and dish clean up wise.
Sol, your food logs always make me mildly envious. I haven't been eating super well, and I can't quite put my finger on why.
Today was a latte and pumpernickle bagel with egg and cheese for breakfast
Kefir and blueberry yogurt bread for snack
Large greek salad with chicken for dinner and a hot fudge sundae (delicious!)
I did a two hour long walk with the dogs today, so the sundae was allowed, in my book at least. I really have to focus on cutting out refined carbs and eating more veggies. Usually my breakfast is oat bran and eggs, so today was a little out of the ordinary.
moremadder that salad looks delicious - thanks for posting the recipe!
I think I've been doing okay, but could definitely use some healthier options when I'm at work and the twix bars downstairs are calling me.
first breakfast (before I leave the house): protein powder shake with almond milk, strawberries, blueberries
second breakfast (once I get to work and am, surprise!, hungry again): breakfast burrito with egg, potato, veggies, cheese
first snack: applesauce cup
lunch: tuna melt, big salad with greens, spinach, cabbage, carrot, cucumber
second snack: jello cup and a protein bar
Tonight is date night so I'm not sure what I'll be eating. I've been craving salads a lot, and can't stand eggs unless they're hidden in something. At my last checkup (at 13 weeks) I had gained 4 pounds.
Now I'm hungry again!
LilyTiger, Glad you like my food logs, yay I think it helps I don't have a sweet tooth except for fresh fruit, but I do like crispy/fried things so that probably makes up for that. Sounds like you have been eating pretty well and really doing awesome with the exercise. The long walk sounds perfect!
I haven't been on this thread in a while because I basically ate the same thing for a week at a time, whatever I could stomach, but now I'm adding some more variety and feeling a bit better. So I'll play along again. I agree with what someone said a while back about this helping to keep on track and be aware of what you're eating.
1st breakfast (still throw this one up): slice of wheat bread with peanut butter and a mug of ovaltine
2nd breakfast: fried egg on wheat toast with tomato and avocado, fresca (I love these lately, the grapefruit one, I feel like my throat gets all gunky and this seems to help)
lunch: grilled chicken wrap with veggies and fat free honey mustard, waffle fries
snack: 2 tagalongs
dinner: cheetos and grapes, slice of homemade pizza
snack: smoothie with protein
I wasn't really that good today, and need to work on it. I got a free travel salad shaker from the race expo, so I need to pick up some more greens. I'm actually super excited about it, because I've been craving only fresh things, then I end up eating things I don't even want, but eat because they are handy. At this point DP is convinced the baby and I are both going to end up vegetarians. I'm trying to make sure I get enough protein, but meat just is not appetizing. I've tried to eat some chicken the last couple of days, and I keep ending up with this dry chicken that is not making me want to eat more of it.
I'm trying to control these insane sweets cravings (hello, two cupcakes a day for the past two days!), so I've come up with a few plans. The first is to bake healthier sweet options that will make me feel like I'm eating sweets but that have some redeeming values. The second thing is to eat more fresh fruits. Finally, as always, I'm in a continual battle to eat more veggies. I think it will be easier to control eating when I'm teaching because I just don't get that hungry during the day.
Today I had:
two eggs with multigrain sourdough toast and glass of OJ
snack - granola bar
late afternoon - pizza bagel on pumpernickel (with extra sauce, so it's almost like a vegetable!)
dinner - hardboiled eggs (2), spinach smoothie, and one slice blueberry yogurt bread
(As you can see, a ton of carbs in here. I'm not against carbs in general, but they should probably be come more from fresh fruits and veggies)
Tomorrow's breakfast and lunch are:
Kefir and kale spinach smoothie for breakfast
two eggs, orange, and blueberry yogurt bread for lunch
We need to go grocery shopping, so we don't have a lot of food in the house. I baked up this bread: http://www.simplemathbakery.com/blog/2012/02/27/daring-bakers-challenge-blueberry-yogurt-quick-bread
But I didn't have flax so I added a cup of chopped walnuts instead (delicious) and we didn't have wheat flour (sad) so I just used white. I cut the sugar from 2/3 cup to 1/2 a cup and it was plenty sweet, so I might even take it down a little more. It's a great way to assuage my sweet tooth without going overboard.
my diet is fluctuating A LOT. Some days its all crap (Sunday was kids cereal at breakfast, lunch with a hamburger and shake, dinner was pizza/popcorn) then I have days like today where I eat really well (apples with hazelnut butter for breakfast, lunch is summer rolls with tofu, dinner with be some sort of hummus with salad) I sort of listen to my body and eat what I crave but those cravings swing so much right now.
I am trying to minimize snacking options to only fruit, veggies or nuts however so at the very least Im not eating crap all day. I also found unsweetened dried fruit to be great to have in my bag
Banana, tuna fish and whole wheat crackers, moz horizon cheese stick, frozen blueberries, apple and nut butter with dried fruit, grilled fish, broccoli, 2 servings of salad, kettle chips with a slice of swiss cheese sandwiched between them (not sure what I was thinking with that one but it hit the spot)
Ohhh, Aimee did you try that Doritos taco? A coworker told me about it and showed me a picture. I want to try it. I can't remember the last time I had taco bell, but that looked good. DP made ground turkey (I can't do ground beef, blech) tacos for dinner a couple nights ago instead, which were good, but I wish we had black olives for it too, and more tomatoes...lately I've just been craving fresh veggies.
breakfast: coconut water and pb&j
snack: veggie salad with yogurt dressing
lunch: bbq pork sandwich (DP: "who are you and what did you do with my pregnant girlfriend?"), green beans, and mac n cheese
snack: 1 tagalong
dinner: veggie hoagie with cream cheese, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, and sprouts (which I've found out I'm not supposed to eat), and 3 deviled eggs (read: three eggs, so 6 halves, not 3 deviled egg halves ). I'm so sad I can't have anymore veggie hoagies with sprouts, we grew up on that in my family, and I absolutely love it.
OK - today I ate:
Breakfast - Apple Juice, Banana, and a big bowl of steel-cut oatmeal with raisins/walnuts
Snack - Apple
Lunch - Egg Salad Sandwich on Whole Wheat w/ Lettuce, Tomato, and Cucs
Dessert - Milk Bubble Tea
Snack - Banana and a handful of almonds
Dinner - Bowl of Homemade Bibimbop (Korean Mixed Rice - Rice, tons of steamed veggies, a fried egg, doused in Korean hot pepper paste and fired up in a claypot with a glaze of sesame oil)
Dessert - Strawberries
Milk Bubble Teas are my current weakness. :)
i think i'm gonna jump in here to start...i feel like i'm in the process of falling off the wagon and i want to climb back on! i wrote down what i ate almost every day during my first trimester and really like the accountability of that...haven't been too good about that recently so hoping this thread will help.
this morning i ate oatmeal (whole oats) with raisins, half and half and a little bit of sugar. i really would like to get back to eating oatmeal every day for digestive reasons (constipation has been a problem for me, which is the way opposite compared to pre-pregnancy)
i also had a cup of coffee, which i'd quit pre-pregnancy but took up again for the constipation (i know there are better options but i do really enjoy my one cup)
snack: wasa cracker with almond butter and a sliced banana
lunch is coconut soup with bok choy, mushrooms, soba noodles
i'll probably eat an orange later also. i feel like citrus has been a big craving for me so far
i'm eating out tonight but will try to be good. i'll often seek out fish or seafood when i'm out since we don't tend to eat that too much at home
generally we eat pretty well. my husband just told me that we spend 1/3 of our credit card bill every month on FOOD, which i'm proud of (and feel fortunate that that's possible!). i try to buy high quality, whole foods (i mostly cook, though we tend to eat out on fridays), organic when possible (always for dairy), humanely raised meat, etc. that being said, onion rings have been a recent weakness . i'm trying to figure out what's a real craving vs. am i giving myself freedom to eat certain (bad) stuff because i'm pregnant. i think it might be a bit of both.
i like that people are sharing recipes here. LilyTiger, that quick bread looks really good, i definitely would like to try that. i've been looking for a good bran muffin recipe and i like the flax component to that, it would probably aid my digestion. and like you said, helps with the sweet tooth.
Im really trying to minimize the 'crap' i eat this pregnancy, with DS1 I ate way to many McFlurries and french frieds.... but I have to admit, taco bell sounds so good I wish we had it in europe!! I have also been eating pizza a lot (1-2 times a week) but mostly totally eliminate take out, fast food etc.. easier to do in europe though where we have almost none!
oatmeal with flax for breakfast
snack dried apricots and almonds
lunch was spinach knodel (I have no idea how to explain this in english!) with a salad and apple
snack 2 was another apple and some dried dates with nut butter
dinner with cottage cheese with a salad, tortilla and some melon
dessert with a hot chocolate and some cream of wheat with maple syrup
snack 3 was some more dried fruit
Id like to work on getting more veggie protein options into my diet, Im afraid Im eating way to much fruit and nut butters lately..
The past two days I have been hungry like never before. I can eat a whole meal and feel nothing like the typical full feeling I want to feel. Today so far I have had half a whole wheat wrap (mustard, cheese, pico, lots of jalapenos, and protein), blue corn chips and fresh made salsa, 2 pickles, all natural graham crackers, apple, hummus and raw broccoli and baby tomatoes, a strawberry, salmon sandwich (salmon, mustard, spinach, onions on whole wheat) with a side of a few sweet potato chips and another pickle.
Breakfast: pumpernickel bagel with egg, sausage, and cheese and a latte
Lunch: Salad with tuna salad on top (mostly romaine and iceberg... I'd never eaten at this deli before, so count me disappointed in the salad quality)
Dinner: Salad with calamari and olives, then two pieces of margharita pizza. They were pretty small pieces and very thin. I initially wanted dessert, but I ran out of room so quickly. I'm definitely at the stage where I just can't eat large meals anymore. Hopefully this carries over into post-pregnancy life, because usually I can eat like an alligator... no need to chew.
Breakfast: Lemonade and omelet with turkey and cheese, and an english muffin
Snack: raw almonds and a serving of Savannah Smiles (lemon girl scout cookies)
Lunch: large veggie salad with balsamic vinagrette
Late Lunch: PB&J and Reese's peanut butter egg
Snack: Cheetos (I didn't even want Cheetos, they were just the only snack I had at my desk)
Dinner: Coconut water and a small hoagie with turkey, roast beef, lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar.
I need to get better snacks at work. I don't even like sweets right now, but I get to that point where I MUST eat or throw up, so I eat whatever is around, and it turned out my almonds were bad.
