What did you eat today? - Page 3

OK - thanks for the green smoothy recipes... I am going to try it today :).

All this "green" talk is making me laugh.  Not sure how you can stomach the stuff in the first trimester!  I joined a CSA here in the South before I found out was pregnant with my second in the spring of '08 and I put SO many bundles of kale into other people's boxes secretly.  I just couldn't handle them at all.  I should try a green smoothie someday...when we have a better blender and I'm out of the morning sickness!

2 servings salt and vinegar potato chips

decaf latte

green smoothie (kale, oj, milk, and 1 cup frozen fruit)

sliced yellow peppers

I felt so gross before I managed to workout, so I'm going to try to avoid doing that again.  Today I started with eggs and sprouted grain toast and a decaf latte.  Now I am mowing down a spicy tuna melt and a side salad.  Hopefully I can try to eat a little more consistently healthy.  My husband is really pushing the importance of fish, so I have to unlearn my sudden hatred of salmon.

Lily Tiger!!  I love your food list!!!  Sounds like me!!! makes me want those pickles and chips ;)

Today I had a green smoothie (been out of ingredients for a while and I was craving some greens)  Today's smoothie was spinach, cucumber, half apple and banana and some frozen strawberries.  My fav is with frozen blueberries and a little celery with a banana, apple,  spinach....  I have also shredded carrot into mine (I just have a semi normal blender, but it works really well)

I also ate the best dinner I have had in what feels like months.  My body needed this..... Kraft mac and cheese (I know, I know) and some steamed veggies, but I smothered everything in chili paste, it was AMAZING!!  I also had some gross food from some crappy Japanese restaurant that made me gag and I had to take it back!  yuck.

I'm so excited about these green smoothies, you guys! Not only do I get 2+ cups of greens, but I have been worried about my blood sugar, being diabetic, with all that fruit every morning. Well, apparently I didn't need to worry-- my sugars are great! I think it might be partially because the way I'm making them makes nearly a whole blender-full, and I nurse it all throughout the morning. So maybe it's just not causing a spike because I'm drinking it slowly. Whatever the reason, this is awesome!

I need to go the the store (coffee maker broke this morning, DH was in a panic) so I'll pick up some greens (OUT). I'm going to have to alter the recipe though. I have to get fat and protein or I'm SICK. So I think I'll add whole milk yogurt and some heavy wiping cream or whole milk.

My berry smoothies have been 1 cup frozen berries (blackberry, raspberry, blueberry) 1 cup plain whole milk yogurt and 2/3 cup whole milk. It tastes so good and I've felt so much better. It is definitely not sweet, as I haven't been able to take more than 1 or 2 bits of anything sweet without being sick for the rest of the day.

Quick break from work....

So far I've had:

sprouted grain toast with butter and two eggs

Small bowl of chocolate ice cream

Poblano pepper and corn soup

One little apple tart (don't really know what it is, my FIL made them last night)

I haven't had any appetite all day, so the only reason I'm eating is to stop feeling nauseous.  Just the sight of a chicken burrito in the fridge made me gag, so I'm really limited on foods I can eat.  Compounding that is that we need to go grocery shopping.  I'll probably cap today off with a green smoothie for dinner and a greek yogurt if I can choke it down. Nothing tastes edible other than ice cream and salt and vinegar chips, but even I am not silly enough to think a fetus can survive on that diet alone.  Wish it could though....

I may start adding milk to mine too. I do yogurt already, but more protein is always good for me.

Today I had, so far:

half a peanut butter sandwich (afforementioned Bees Knees peanut butter)

Annie's shells with chicken

Not sure about the smoothie thing, before I got pregnant I was juicing fairly regularly, and I drank a green juice (celery, green apple, cucumber, lime and kale) that I loved. Still not sure if my tummy could handle that yet but I wonder if the smoothie with yogurt might go down easier. Not sure. I doubt my blender could handle greens, the juicer (it's a pretty old one) had trouble getting the kale, too.

today was my first full-out food aversion day. I spent most of it hungry and nauseous and knowing I had to eat but unable to think of a darn thing I could stomach. I went shopping after work and picked up a load of great stuff, though:

fresh cored pineapple

montreal bagels

blueberries

plain chips

sparkling lemonade (limonata)

snap peas

so .... I guess that is what I'm craving!

oh yeah - and I made pierogies for dinner. I'm not usually a big starch / carb person but that is what appeals right now!

Cecilia's Mama, I started out today with a modified green smoothie.

Today I did 1/2 cup frozen berries (raspberry, blackberry and blueberry), 1/2 cup spinach, 1 large leaf kale (without the hard stem, since my little smoothie maker cannot handle them well), 1 cup half and half, 1/2 cup plain yogurt and 1 banana.

I think tomorrow I'll only use half a banana, as it is almost to sweet.

This is so weird - this is the only thread I could find in our discussion section - it keeps telling me there are no discussions. Anyone else having that problem?

I'm having the same experience - it's probably a glitch - but I don't think it's your computer!

lol Thanks Kelleymama! Looks like it was a site glitch. Glad everything is back to normal now.

Glad it is back up.  Today is starting off like any other day with whole grain organic cereal.  I had stopped eating cereals for a very long time before I was pregnant, maybe it has even been years, but it is easy and tastes good so have been doing that.  When I get my blender I will green smoothie the mornings.

Yesterday I made an egg mcmuffin type biscuit for breakfast with melted swiss, lots of pepper and garlic in the egg.  It was pretty good but I needed some vegetables, I thought about tossing some spinach on there but decided to just eat more vegetables later.

Started off the day at 4 am, with a mug of homemade bone broth (http://nourishedkitchen.com/perpetual-soup-the-easiest-bone-broth-youll-make/) then went back to bed. Then I made a protein packed green smoothie. I drank most of it, but put some in the fridge for later. Though I'm having another mug of bone broth now.

Lunch we're going to have leftover fermented rice (fermentation is just 7 hours), the meat I can pull off the soup bones (in my perpetual bone broth) and peas or green beans.

Looks like it will be chuck roast, cheesy spinach and baked potatoes for dinner...

Of course more bone broth and other snacks throughout the day. I can't wait for my pumpkin seeds to finish sprouting!

4am is an early start to the day for sure.

How long do your pumpkin seeds take to sprout?  Will you get them today?  I had some pumpkin seeds today, they were so good.

I started with raw pumpkin seeds from the health food store. It take about 3 day and then half a day drying time. Though it is worth it.

Seeds nuts and grains (really all are seeds) have natural protections to keep the viability for many years, when conditions are right to grow. Those make them difficult to digest, thus we get less out of them then their true nutritional value.

Sprouted pumpkin seeds have much higher protein (among other things) content. I started mine yesterday (rinseing 3x a day) so it will Friday or Saturday when I can dry them. I have black beans and spelt going too.

I won't dry the black beans. When they are done (also about 3 days time), Ill cook them and put them in the freeze so they'll be ready when I want them.

The spelt I'll dry. Some will go in the freezer and the rest will be ground for bread.

lactomom - that is fantastic that you're doing all that sprouting - your little sprout will be thanking you for all that goodness!

I've been eating a bit crappy lately - lots of plain carbs balanced out with fresh fruit. It is just so much easier to swallow a piece of bread than anything with aroma!

It's getting harder to eat anything.  I woke up at 3am feeling super pukey so I toasted some frozen blueberry waffles, ate 1 bite and realized I couldn't eat them then when I woke up at 8am, I forced myself to eat a couple of more bites before I got up.  I had a bagel with an egg, turkey, and cheese, but I wasn't really feeling that either.  I was able to finish most of it by lunchtime.  Then I had a peanut butter smoothie and a double shot of wheat grass.  Dinner was a bagel with cream cheese and a tiny bit of pasta with carrots and peas. This is so different from what I normally eat.  I'd like to do more soups, that sounds really good. Thanks for the link, lactomom.
