Things Your Toddler Knows For Absolutely No Reason That Maybe Make You A Little Nervous Actually

Today my 24-month-old DD decided that she knows about almonds. She knows the word, and how to tell them apart from all the other mixed nuts (which she dumped on the floor, of course.)

Like, I don't know that I've ever said "almond" to her before today. She's never had hard nuts before, never seen an almond before.

And yet, she brought me a nut (from the floor- it was delicious) and declared "ahmund." Thinking surely I misheard, I sent her on a quest to fetch me another almond. She did.

9 out of 10 trials later? Almonds. (And one fluke of a cashew, that was *very* delicious.)

Apparently she learns by osmosis, because, WHAT?

What are some things your toddlers have done/said that boggle your mind and defy all reason?

How come the 2y can open a child resistant (I got a lecture from poison control when I said child proof, they told me it obviously is not called child proof or else I wouldn't be calling!) prescription pill bottle, remove the stopper inside that only allows one pill out at a time, and eat them all. Yet he can't pull out the candy from the pez dispenser that his big sister gave him. eyesroll.gif

I just noticed my sweet little girl has learned how to.....pick her nose! Not with one finger either--no sir, she will use one finger, then move on to the next, until every finger has been used. Then, she will hold her hand out for me to clean the fingers. How lovely!

Hmmm, who showed her how to pick her nose? Did she learn this on her own, or has she been watching Daddy and big brother too much?

My 23 month old, somewhere around 20 months refused to ride in the cart and not insists on holding on to the side of the cart and riding.  We are also picking our nose now... and not to rat out my kind and loving MIL, but we also somewhere discovered that we like diet coke.  Not going to lie, that one ticked me off.

I would be ticked off about the Diet Coke too!! We are an aspartame free family, and I won't even let my mother give my son gum with aspartame.

Lol, my little one learned how to ride along side the cart. She'll also hold it and walk along side, and she thinks she's actually pulling it by herself. So cute!

DS (2) picked up a calendar of wildlife the other day (he loves animals, and my grandparents thoughts he would enjoy it) and flips through the pictures. He comes to september, a picture of an elk. He says 'elk' quite distinctly. I know he knows deer from other books, but I don't think we knew elk yet. So we flip through them again, and sure enough he knows 'elk' just fine- and didn't confuse it with the deer either. Too funny

The other day I told my 22 month old I was taking her pants off because they were wet. She nonchalantly replied 'OK, we let it dry'. She's quite verbal so I wasn't surprised at the sentence but more that she got the concept that wet clothes will dry on their own. We mostly use a dryer and the laundry's in the basement anyway so she doesn't really get involved with it much.
