I'm back from the dr appointment. The hb sounded great (I recorded it for dh), but no u/s. All the bloodwork came back fine, except apparently I carry one of the cystic fibrosis mutations. We are going to meet with a genetic counselor next week and get dh tested. Apparently he also has to be a carrier for this to be a problem for the baby, so we are hoping that he's not. I was fine when the dr went over it with me, but now I'm definitely more frightened (dh was able to call me at lunch and I was calm and collected, but as soon as I talked to my mom I started crying). Well, now on to trying to have a normal day.

*hugs* Andaluza. I am so sorry you have to deal with this stress, but as everyone has said try to focus on the slim odds of it actually manifesting.Glad you got to record the heartbeat! So as far as our continued sickness, I read something last night that said that immune suppression lasts until about week 14 so our bodies can allow the baby to settle in without any problems. So here's hoping.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone. I did cry as I left the driveway this morning seeing huz stand there, I just wanted to stay so bad (even though he'd be leaving for work in an hour. But things have gotten better. Yesterday sucked so bad, I did end up throwing up, I think just because of the yuckiness from my sinuses. I have a ton of Valentine candy and a cake (uh sort of weird) from my students I can't eat. I can't stand anything sweet at all. Actually I still hate food today. :(
Livingsky, look at that cutie!
Only 1.5 more classes to go.post #345 of 4912/14/12 at 12:38pm
Yeah, Boots, so our immune systems will perk up a bit soon! Good news. It's sweet that you got some treats for your birthday and V-day, even though you can't really enjoy them. Dh got me some white chocolate with strawberries that is taunting me, but until this yeast is totally cleared up I am not giving in!
Thank you so much for the support, ladies! We are all hoping that dh doesn't have this mutation! And if so, well, we will just keep moving forward.
My mom was not really any help, she just kept saying: "no one in the family has ever had cf, so I'd be much more worried about down's syndrome if I were you, since (my mom) had 2 cousins with it." Gee, thanks. First, it shows that she wasn't listening to anything I said about cf and what would make it possible for our child to actually have it. And second, is that really supposed to make me feel better?! I'm just glad these two weeks are crazy with work, so I can't obsess and google everything that occurs to me. I have listened to the heartbeat now several times and that helps me feel more zen--stay strong, little one!post #346 of 4912/14/12 at 3:56pmpost #347 of 4912/14/12 at 8:02pmpost #348 of 4912/15/12 at 4:10ampost #349 of 4912/15/12 at 5:26am
Man oh man I am missing stuff. Happy Birthday Boots! And what an awesome valentine. :) <3
Anda - Sorry about the worry and the less-than-helpful mom talk. Sometimes it amazes me what comes out of people's mouths as they think they're being helpful to a pregnant woman. <3
Caly - You're over the halfway mark! I can't believe time is flying by so quickly.
LS - Kayden is so handsome and happy!
Ram - Hope you're doing well. Please feel free to spam us with pictures!
Fun fact: This morning I woke up to some major shift in Odin's positioning. Not sure what's up but it was such that my left side poked out WAY further than my right, resulting in a belly button pointing to the RIGHT instead of straight ahead. Did an inversion before I thought to take a picture. Whoops.post #350 of 4912/15/12 at 3:41pmThread Starter
What a great present, Boots! I don't know what egg lemon soup is, but it sounds yummy.
Rosie, that must have been strange AND awesome. I can't wait until I'm able to see the baby moving around.
We had a lovely dinner out last night, but I felt nauseous afterwards and have had no appetite today (maybe it was the huge slab of meat I ate? I'm usually not a big meat eater, but I had prime rib). I managed to eat some trail mix at lunchtime, but that's been it so far today. I can't even think about dinner. My belly has popped out above my bellybutton, so little Blueberry is definitely growing. I spent a lot of time working on our baby registry this weekend. I think I'm almost done. I found a website that had a really helpful breakdown of what you should have on hand when baby arrives v. things that can wait (or might not be needed at all). I was going to post a link, but of course I can't find it now!post #351 of 4912/16/12 at 7:48am
Hey everyone! Just popping in while procrastinating.
Andaluza, when do you find out about DH's carrier status? It must be really hard, but as other people have said, the odds are with you. It's pretty rare. And don't listen to your mom about the Down's thing. It's a spontaneous mutation, meaning it doesn't run in families unless your partner actually has Downs, which would involve an entirely new set of questions. My mom made a similar weird comment before I got pregnant. She was commenting on my cousin's four gorgeous children and saying how lucky we have been to avoid genetic problems and then she pops out with, "I just have this feeling we're due for something bad..." She knew that DH and I were the next ones to have kids.... Why are moms insane? Are we going to say stuff like that when we get old? Does the pregnancy and nursing fry the common sense part of your brain over time?
Awwww, Boots, I love that! Egg lemon soup is the best for preggos. And what sweet way to give it to you.
Rosie, good luck hanging on until exams are done. It must be exciting to be so far along. I cannot wait to start showing, which is weird. I'm just really excited. Part of it is probably that I want to be out of this Fatty-No-Waist stage I'm going through now. With workout clothes I look relatively normal (though a little waist-free), but with maternity pants (the only non-workout pants I can wear now) I have this little floop on the bottom and then a little bump on top. I'm like a cupcake that someone was frosting when the phone rang. Just a little uneven, shall we say?
LivingSky, great teeth! What a cutie. I'm hoping for a blonde babe, and I think we have a pretty good shot.
Caly, congrats on the halfway mark again. And post the link if you find it. My all time favorite pregnancy blog PregnantChicken.com also has a list somewhere on what you minimally need. Did you do a universal registry or did you stick with a particular store/s?
AFM, we had a great Valentine's extravaganza, which is interesting because we usually don't do anything for it. We went to comedy improv over the weekend with friends and then dinner after, DH bought me a pregnancy pillow that basically made him redundant and took up his side of the bed, went to our second swing dance lesson on Valentine's Day proper and then yesterday had a wonderful dinner at a new restaurant near us and ended the night at the social dance hosted by our swing studio. Very fun stuff. I also got chocolates and flowers, so I think my husband is compensating for being sick the last week. I had weird pains all last night, perhaps as a result of the constant activity this week, but nothing serious (I hope). Lots of weird sex dreams that I don't quite know what to do with since I'm feeling very unsexy in real life, so that's been interesting too.
Hope you guys all have a great week! More baby pics, please. I will post some cute onesies we got from MIL and you can all picture a baby inside them. Yay!
(Sorry to anyone I missed!)post #352 of 4912/16/12 at 9:44am
And here's the Pregnant Chicken post on the minimum you need to survive with a baby. Since I've already bought the requisite Johnny Cash onesie, I'm obviously not going super minimal here, but it's good to have an idea of what is really necessary. http://www.pregnantchicken.com/pregnant-chicken-blog/2011/8/30/baby-on-a-budget-the-barest-bare-essentials.htmlpost #353 of 4912/17/12 at 5:43amLilyTiger: Just keep in mind that you don't necessarily need to worry if babe is born with black hair - cause you may still get blonde! LOL
Kayden 1 day old:
Kayden at 3 months:
Kayden at 7 months:
This was my pattern as a child as well If he continues like me he'll be platinum blonde by a year old, and then sometime around 8-10 yrs he'll start to get a bit darker again. It's fun!post #354 of 4912/17/12 at 5:49ampost #355 of 4912/17/12 at 6:15ampost #356 of 4912/17/12 at 7:03ampost #357 of 4912/17/12 at 8:46am
Boots, what a lovely dh you have! I hope you've had some good days!
Happy birthday, Caly!
Rosie, it is so amazing to hear you discuss positions and moving Odin! Sometimes I think I feel movement, but I can't wait until it is actually visible!
LilyTiger, sounds great that you are keeping so busy and having so much fun!
Thank you for the assurance. I did not know that about down's, actually, so that is interesting. We are meeting with the prenatal genetic counselor on Tuesday and I think that they will be doing dh's tests. They are also the ones who will be doing my 18 week scan, as far as I can tell.
Livingsky, what an amazing transformation in the hair! I was born with light brown hair and now it's nearly black, but it's fun to see pics from when I was under a year with mousy colored hair. Of course, my hair is also stick straight or wavy depending on the climate and water where we live, but that is another story.
What a cutie, Tank!
AFM, such a long day yesterday--I had a huge work-related event at the end of the day through the early evening, followed by a social gathering and didn't get home til after 11. I was so exhausted. I also had to give a presentation as part of it, something I tend to do pretty often, but this time I could really feel the shortness of breath! It was also the first time in my pregnancy that I had to piece dinner together from appetizers--I ate a lot of grape leaves, hummus, and tabbouleh, praying that everything would agree with me. There were several people from work there, and so was dh, so we spilled the beans! Everyone was so thrilled and supportive, I couldn't have asked for a better response! Now onto more work-related craziness for later next week! Part of it involves travel and dh is coming with me to fill in the down time (we'll be in a warm beach location! finally!). I can't wait. This is really helping to keep my mind off things.post #358 of 4912/18/12 at 4:55ampost #359 of 4912/18/12 at 6:25am
hello ladies - still reading along but up until now have not had too much time to post/personals. Now I've got all the time in the world since my OB put me on modified rest for placenta previa :/ I can still work (I have a 'desk' job) but have to rest when I'm not sitting and can only get up for 10 minutes each hour ::twiddles thumbs:: On the upside I can get a ton of baby knitting and crafting done. Looking forward to being more a part of this group going forward.post #360 of 4912/18/12 at 6:43am
