Thanks for the new thread MW!

You're right, DD is exposed to a lot more germs that most babies simply because going to her cardiologist requires a trip to the hospital. That's why I'm pretty fanatical about getting her probiotics and vitamin D in her every day. So far, besides the stomach bug ( and it wasn't even as bad as what DSD 12 had except we had to spend the night in the hospital for observation), she hasn't been sick. For me, one of the ways that I view the vaccines that I have allowed the doctors to administer to DD so far is that I am trying to eliminate as many variables as possible to keep DD healthy and not contract a respiratory illness. I am not fully vaccinated against Pertussis due to an extreme reaction to the second dose. I spiked a fever of 105, covered in purple splotches and was pretty much unresponsive. So I could technically contract pertussis and expose DD to it. Pertussis in an otherwise healthy infant is not that big of a deal as someone else pointed out. But in a baby with CHD, it could be fatal.

DD has been so tired from the weekend's activities that she has pretty much slept through the night the past two nights. She's gone down about 9 PM, I do a dreamfeed at midnight and then she gets up at 6. I haven't been sleeping that whole time though. I've been waking up at 4 or 5 to pump because I can't go that long in between pumping sessions now that I started the fenugreek. Oh I was going to tell you guys in case someone else was wondering. Remember how I asked if anyone had taken fenugreek because I was concerned about clogged ducts since a couple of my IRL friends had taken it and gotten clogged ducts? Well it turns out that they are also the same friends that have their babies on eating and sleeping schedules so my guess is that they are getting clogged ducts because they were trying to drop feeds, etc. and in me at least, the fenugreek increases my urge to pump. I get the tingly sensation after about 2 hours now and can't go much more than 3 unless I am asleep and then it usually wakes me up after 4 hrs or so.

makes sense that they would clogged ducts if they aren't nursing or pumping as often as they should.

was that reaction to the vaccine when you were a child or as an adult? i've read things recently about how the powers that be now think the vaccine immunity wears off faster than originally. it is now recommended that children gat another booster. i don't know the age or interval since i don't know the vax schedule anymore.

i stopped vaxing when i believe ethan had a reaction to the DTaP (or whichever one they used then) at 4 months. of course, the doc wouldn't confirm that it was a vax reaction so i can't say for sure. just seemed rather coincidental that he got a horrible URI right after the shot and even stopped breathing for a few seconds. thank goodness sean was home and knew infant cpr because i was in a panic.

It was when I was a baby so my understanding is that it was before it was the accelluar form of pertussis. My mom was pretty lazy about taking us to the doctor so it was my second dose but I was almost a year old at that point so it would have been in 1979. My mom is convinced that if I had been younger, I probably would have died. Because of the severe reaction, I have never finished the series or gotten any of the boosters. There was discussion before I had DD about whether or not I should get the booster and then after she was born there was A LOT of discussion about me getting the booster. But no one could say for sure that I would not have a reaction to the booster so my GP (who is also my friend and DD's godmother) strongly urged me NOT to get the booster. And she's pretty pro-vax.

Kindermama, anything going on?

that was frustrating but i did it. It took forever and several tries. i don't know that my nook is any easier than my phone. i've never been able to use my phone to browse the web. it's a LG Shine. i'm definitely getting a smartphone next time.

was there something you had to do to make it easier, Annie?

Annie ~ I just posted a new story about a man who had an adverse reaction to a vaccine on a plane. I think it's a very good idea that you not get that booster. One bad reaction makes you much more likely to have another regardless of your age, I think.

That's the thing about vaccines. No one can say for sure that they will do any good or that any one individual will not have a bad reaction to it.

No, it's pretty cumbersome posting from my nook tablet. I can't always get the keyboard to pop up when I click in the reply box. But it's better than posting from my blackberry!

That article was very interesting. I wish they had said what vaccine caused that. I definitely will not ever get the pertussis booster. It says in the Pentacel literature that if you have had a response like mine, to not ever have anything else with pertussis in it even if it's acellular.

Starting to think about introducing solids to DD. She will be 6 months on Jan. 17. She's VERY interested in food, to the point now where she gets visibly upset if I'm eating something while holding her. She wants to eat. I'm thinking roasted sweet potato strips or carrots sliced and boiled? Thoughts anyone? I don't think I want to do bananas right away but I think that's more of the "don't give a baby something sweet first" advice in my head and my breastmilk is plenty sweet so I don't think that matters at this point!

bananas are always a first food here. so easy. any squash, even meat, plain. you can scrape the meat against the grain to get shreds that work, according to The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding published by LLL. they might recommend chicken specifically. i can't remember.

One of Ryan's friends who I haven't seen in a while showed up today. He's 22. He had a baby a year ago with a girlfriend whom he says it's crazy. It's one of those ridiculous jealousy, insecurity situations where she thinks she needs to chase him all over town to keep him faithful. So, he says that, even though they broke up many months ago, she is pregnant again with his child(ren). It may be twins. Makes me so grateful Ryan is not a father yet.

FYI - Kinder posted in the other thread she had her baby today!

AnnieA - I could only hold out until 5 1/2 months with A for the exact same reasons you stated above! LOL She would literally be PO'd when I ate in front of her. (she actually still is, so I have to make sure I am eating something, or have something, that she can eat!) and wouldn't be distracted with non food items anymore. I was literally almost starving myself by trying not to eat in front of her!

MW - that's crazy. I don't understand how people have baby after baby if they aren't in a good relationship! I did have J a little young (almost 21 when I had her) but I had been engaged to my now DH for almost a year before I had her (we were already engaged before I got pregnant........not that it really matters
lol.gif
)

OMG - I have the funniest story to tell you ladies! Ok - so kinda gross but every once in awhile A just doesn't want to go poo. I mean, she's not really constipated and CAN'T get it out, she literally squeezes her butt cheeks closed so it doesnt come out.

So, when she does this I actually take her butt cheeks and just spread them a little so the poop just comes out. I know - gross! LOL But it is better than a grumpy baby who then MAKES herself constipated
orngtongue.gif

DH see's me doing this every once in awhile and is always like "groosssss - I would so never do that!"

Well, last night when I was at work she was doing her whole "I am NOT letthing this poo out! EVER!" So after about 20 min of dealing with a cranky baby he spreads the butt cheeks!!!

ROTFLMAO.gif

It just cracks me up because it is sooooo not something I could ever picture him doing. Prime example of desperate times call for desperate measures!

Hahaha! Annie that's awesome! DH is convinced that DD can't toleratea wet dipe now that she's peeing on the potty more. I don't think she's there yet but she definitely is learning what to do when I put her on the potty! Congrats Kindermama on Everest! I'm terrified that I'm going to be a step grandma before I'm ready! MW, did/do you talk about sex ed stuff alot with Ryan?

Welcome baby Everest!! You are totally a rockstar!!

Annie - I did roasted sweet potato with DD for her first food and she liked it. It was a hit for awhile. If you don't want to prepare anything special though, banana is good, or just some cooked (and then cooled, obv) carrots.

I went to Buy Buy Baby the other day to shop for a baby shower gift. While I was standing in one spot at least 3 people bought/picked up that Baby Bullet that was stacked by me. It kinda bothered me. I mean, I know not to use it but so many ppl spoon feed their babies purees and I didn't even realize. I'm always shocked when I step out into the real world and am reminded how ppl do things.

We went to my ILs last night for chinese and I was holding Finn on my lap. Oh - before I forget, my MIL now knows like 3 or 4 people who named their baby Finley! It's insane! And its a character name on like 3 of their favorite shows! I'm just blown away. It was in the 500's people! Why is this name becoming so popular!? Anyway - so I'm holding finn, and someone made a comment about how he's not allowed to "eat" yet when he grabbed at something. MIL says, "Oh how long did you wait for Nora? Awhile right? 6 months?" I said, "yeah -- but he'll be 5 months soon, so not that much longer." Her eyes bugged out of her head and she was like, whoa, you're right. So it's not just ME time is flying for. Ha!

Annie ~ Avocado is another good first food. We don't do it here because I am allergic. Sean loves it, though. People say it's really good.

I started keeping bananas on hand even though I'm not feeding them to Dylan yet. It's a waste of money. I had to throw a bunch of 6 bananas away last time because no one eats them. I can't stand bananas. Kellen says he likes them but only eats a few bites. Ethan and Ryan don't eat them at all. BTW, does anyone know how to save a partially peeled banana without freezing it? Maybe sprinkle some lemon juice on the end of it that usually turns brown?

annie2186 (I think I'll start calling you 2 Big A and Little A) ~ That is funny. There are so many things that we think are so gross we could never be involved with them until our children need it.

Yeah, I can understand one mistake. I mean, I got pregnant with Ryan by accident. I certainly did not want babies then (barely 20yo) if ever and had absolutely no intention of being in a long-term relationship with his father. I learned from my mistake, though, and made sure I did everything I could after that to not get pregnant unintentionally again. I think there are just some people who don't really see it as much of a problem. It's the way they see everyone else around them live. It's normal for the man boys to have multiple children with multiple women and it's normal for the woman girls to chase the man boys around accusing them of cheating and getting in fights with the other baby mamas. I gave the guy a mini-lecture about getting a good education/job and to stop making babies until he gets married (and that he should seriously think about marrying this girl if he's going to continue to have a relationship with her and have 2+ kids together). It probably won't matter but I seriously doubt anyone else have ever said that to him.

I have always been very open and sex with Ryan. If he was old enough to ask a question, he was old enough to get the factual answer. He used to help me study for my biology classes when I was in college so he knew all about various forms of reproduction (as well as other scientific concepts) long before anyone else. Sometimes it would get him in trouble in school, which is ridiculous. I still talk to him about keeping safe from diseases and not getting anyone pregnant. He knows that if he did, I would expect to fully support that child and his/her mother both financially and physically and emotionally. He wouldn't get off easy by just sending a check once a month and getting "visitation" every other weekend. Isn't it strange to think that a parent has to have visitation with his/her child? We have supplied him with condoms since he was about 15, whenever he started to express a serious interest in sex and started having girlfriends and be in situations where he could have sex.

Right now he doesn't have a girlfriend and says he doesn't want a girlfriend because all the girls around here are too superficial. The relationship would be meaningless. They are either looking for a Marine to marry so would only be passing time with him or they are already married to a Marine and just looking for a little action on the side. You should hear some of the stories he tells about delivering pizzas. It's actually kind of scary. I mean, if a man did to a woman what these women do to Ryan, the man would be in jail. I'm thankful he is level headed enough to not get caught up in all of that. He's not one of those guys that runs around having sex with whoever. I was really worried he would be because he's attractive enough that he could.

Oh, did I tell you all that he thinks he has a stalker. One of the female managers at his work always keeps him as the last driver when she's working. He said the other night, in the middle of the night, he was outside and saw her walked past our house. She doesn't live anywhere near us. He then said she cut through a couple of yards to the cul-de-sac behind, from which you can see our house, and then drove past our house in her car.

So, I guess we should close down this thread and start a new one in LWAB. I'll get that done sometime today but D is starting to fuss now.

Sorry guys for posting in the Dec thread....my brain was elsewhere!!!

Here's a quick peek of Everest! He literally nursed from birth at 5:36pm (minus the time for a newborn exam and what-not) until 8 am this morning....that's normal right? Man, my nipples are sore already. Once or twice, he had a bad latch. My nipples are pretty flat....poor baby kept getting frustrated! I wish I had those big prominent nipples I see in maternity pics sometimes! I'm using lanolin to help and have my trusty homeopathy on hand in case it gets to be unbearable.
