OPK Query

I had a positive OPK test on day 15 at 17.00pm, my test was positive the next day (day 16) at 11.00am and 15.00pm and negative at 17.00 hrs however my December BBT chart shows that I ovulated on day 17 - is this possible as my OPK text was negative on this day? If this is possible does anyone know how - surely LH is up at the actual time of ovulation?

Actually, the LH surge detected by OPK precedes ovulation by 12-48 hours (depending on which OPK you use this timeframe can differ slightly). If you could share your chart, that might help as I don't tend to trust FF's interpretation always. What you describe is not impossible at all but seeing your chart might help provide a more detailed explanation.

I also have an OPK question if I can chime in here (should I start a new thread? I am new to boards and always feel unsure of etiquette!!) -

I had a positive three days ago (the 29th), but no temp surge yet. No EWCM either, just watery. Not sure what's going on and both hubby and I are getting tired of BD'ing on-demand..... had a chemical pregnancy last month, and have heard that can make you ovulate late, or early - if the OPK was right, I ovulated about four days earlier than normal.

Also heard that fertility is higher after a chemical pregnancy, so I'm anxious not to miss ovulation date....

This is all so stressful! I thought trying was going to be fun!! irked.gif

Oh also - I have had negative OPKs since then - meaning, ones with faint lines. Can you ovulate after a positive OPK test, even if you are getting negatives? Like, does the surge stay, or does it happen once, signalling the onset of ovulation, and then go?

Do you track your BBT - I find fertilityfriend.com really useful - although my chart has confused me this month too.

Try and relax a little - baby's sometimes come along when you least expect them.  Green Tea is good to increase fertility - I can recommed Tetley Decaf - it is not bitter and actually very nice!!!  smile.gif

I've posted my chart for you to have a look at - it showed ovulation to be day 15 until I put in my Jan 1st temp - then it moved to day 17 but OPK was negative on day 17???  What do you think?

I am still waiting to ovulate after a chemical pregnancy (AF was 2 days late last month)- just a recap:

I have NOT had a temperature rise, but I did have a positive OPK, pretty early, too (in a previous month, I had a positive OPK four days before ovulation was confirmed with a temp rise). I have watery CW but not EWCM and I *think* my cervix position is high and soft (this is the first time I'm checking that).

All other OPKs other than the one positive have been negative - with a faint line but nowhere near as dark as the one positive. I'm now 6 days past that positive OPK, without an ovulation rise. ??

Please help! My husband and I really want to try this month, but we have been BD'ing every day (skipped yesterday) and I think we're both running out of steam.... but I really don't want to miss this month! Having the CP just made us both extra committed to trying....

I think you probably OD'd on day 17. From what I've read on other boards, the LH surge which triggers an OPK test to be positive happens anywhere from 12 - 48 hours BEFORE ovulation - so this actually makes a lot of sense. By the time you ovulate I think it's possible to have a negative (or less positive?) OPK- I'd trust what the chart tells you since the temp rise is the most reliable predictor of having ovulated.

P.S. Anyone, help with my chart interpretation (see above)?: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/377f3b/]My Ovulation Chart

Some people on FF said that I probably O'd on day 15 because of the temp dip and the positive OPK.... I'm so hoping that's it - we're tired of BD'ing on demand (sorry but it's true!!)... but I really don't want to miss the day...

I think it looks like you O'd on day 16 - although no sustained temp rise but the day of ovulation is normally the day before the rise - I'd say no ovulation except you had a positive ovulation test on day 15.  I found that some OPK tests are hard to read though so could it have been negative - I found a great website www.accessdiagnostics.co.uk - they sell ovulation kits very cheep - the ClearBlue ones are worth the extra money though as they are soooo clear!!!  My ovulation skips around all over the place day 19, then day 22 now day 17!!

Try vitamin B6 (at least 50mg a day), progesterone cream and baby asprin to prevent chemical pregnancy - I'd also say to invest in a digital ovulation kit to be 100% sure of a positive test - good luck TTC!
