52 Project Challege, 2012 - Page 3

Ok, [deep breath] I'm coming to join you. I don't have 52 projects but I'll start writing everything down and see how far I get...

1. Felt Christmas ornaments (I bought the felt and beads for these before Christmas and then ran out of time)

2. Finish embellished singlets for J (the cut-outs are stuck on I just have to sew around them)

3. Shorts for J, 3 pairs

4. Birthday present for J (not sure what yet. Maybe a quilt for the rag doll I made for her first birthday. Or a patchwork cushion in the shape of a "J")

5. Christmas table decorations - table runner ? applique napkins

6. Flannel winter pj's for J - I found some lovely leftover flannel from a previous project so if there is enough I will make pjs

7. Organise sewing room (sewing shed actually. Currently a store room for boxes we haven't unpacked.)

8. Organise top shelf of wardrobe (it's become a bit of a dumping ground)

9. Create garden beds for vegie garden

10. Plant vegetables

11. Replant wall-mounted pots with something hard to kill, probably succulents

12. Wide-leg pants for me

13. Bias-cut dress for me

14. Finish knitted baby blanket

15. Make gift for friend's baby, due in May (probably an activity quilt)

16. Make paper covered J (I have some gorgeous wrapping paper left over from J's birthday last year and I want to use it to cover one of those big craft letters for her. Mainly because I like the paper so much and I'm trying to think of non-disposable ways to use it. All other ideas warmly welcomed orngbiggrin.gif).

17. Pot holders x2. I made my mum 2 aprons and I thought I would do some matching pot holders with the leftover fabric. Mainly to learn how to quilt.

18. Hat for J (also from leftover apron fabric)

19. Christmas present for J (no idea what, will wait and see what her interests are closer to the time)

20. I'm going to leave the last 7 spots open for now (slightly random but 26 gives me one project a fortnight).  We are TTC starting this month so if there is a new baby to prepare for I will fill these spots with things for him/her.

21.

22.

23.

24.

25.

26.

Edited because there are 26 fornights in a year not 24 duh.gif

I love swimteam.  That gives me over a full hour of craft time 3x  a week.  Is that totally selfish or what??  I've had 3 days now of total crochet time and I'm in love.  In love that my son joined a team that practices at the local... are you ready... country club.  There are awesome deck chairs and chaise lounges.  In love that the other mommies are friendly and I'm totally in love at the golfers LOL.

3 days a week, at least an hour of crafting.  Who knows what happens when AZ gets friggin hot come the end of april and into the summer but right now I am in heaven.

I am keeping everything crossed that subbing jobs will appear, classes start for traditional school next week.  Not that I get a ton of free time but I usually get a 'plan' class and lunch etc which I can read or do whatever with.  Great times to start a project, kinda hard to bring in a full blanket to work on, ya know.   Better to save those for the pool deck  hehe.

I love seeing everyone's lists.  I have so much yarn to work through again, plus embroidery projects. I hope 2012 isn't a year where my depression and other issues surface.  I want to accomplish so much.

Happy Crafting---- see ya on the pool deck  LOL

You can come to hockey rink for the summer ;-). I knit 7 pairs of socks so far this season. We have 90 minute practices, there's "dry land" training and time spent getting all the gear on and off. So I get about 2.5 hours 3-4 times a week. Now, it's 45-60 minutes away so house cleaning and dinner often take a backseat but lots of hats and socks get finished!

You guys are making me want to sign the girls up for some sports love.gif My oldest actually asked to get involved in T-Ball so we might be doing that this spring? (what time of year is baseball season??) but Im not looking forward to the heat.. North Carolina in the summer, I can just imagine. I was in South Carolina during May/June/July/August for training and I remember sweating so much I could wring out my cammies.

Talking about cammies, I have a ton of them in storage that won't work for my husband (maternity cammies from when I was pregnant with my first and still active duty) so Im thinking of using them to make stuffed animals for the children. I thought it might be nice to do with them if I can't find anyone who needs them. They would be for the children's stockings for Christmas, its a family tradition for a stuffed animal to be put on the top of the stocking.

This  is why I'm so jealous of all the yarn crafters.I guess I just need to embrace the hand sewing more.

Hey all,

I totally up for this!

I am currently at 51/52 left to do.  I finished up the binding on a quilt for a friend and sent it on it's way just this morning.

One of my resolutions this year is to finish up all of my UFOs.  This will be good for me.

Welcome Shawna! I, also, want to finish UFOs I have laying around. I know I have a bunch in storage that I need to finish when I get them back and I want to finish all the ones I have laying around before we move.

I love seeing all the new faces here! Can't wait to start seeing the finished project pictures. I got up early this morning to work on some projects but Im huddled under the blanket trying to stay warm. Someone please remind me next time to turn the heat on before going to bed, it dropped low last night and I had forgotten to turn it on, burrrrrr..cold.gif

I did a bit recently. I was making DD a dress for Christmas (by machine, obviously), and it was two days before Christmas and still not done. So when I went to a friend's house I took the dress over and basted the zip in, finished a couple of seams and blind-stitched the sleeve hems up. It was surprisingly fun. I always feel hand-sewing is frustratingly slow when I have a sewing machine right there that can sew a seam in three seconds; but when the machine's not available, there's a certain old-world pleasure to doing it by hand.

If I could get a lamp for the living room, I could sew while we watch movies. We have a projector, so I can't keep the main light on, and DH likes to unwind at the end of every day by watching stuff with me; but I often feel vaguely antsy, like I'd rather be doing something productive. We watched Green Lantern last night (awful, awful movie) and I spent the whole time wanting to make nine-patches. :p A lamp would solve that problem...

Taking up knitting or crochet isn't a bad idea, though. I knit, in theory, but not very well or fast. Mum recently spent several days at the hospital with my sister, and she knocked off half a dozen knitting projects. Portable and (in theory) quick... I should really get back into it. Then again, that kinda goes against the spirit of this project, doesn't it? :p But I do have a stash of wool going a-begging, so.

Speaking of stashes, I decluttered my fabric stash last night. Ruthlessly. We're moving house. Got rid of three big bags, via Freecycle. It felt good!

The blanket is about 1/2-2/3 done but I need more yarn. I must wait for the next sale.   Starting to work on legwarmers.  80 degrees and legwarmers.  go figure  LOL

Definitely get a lamp if you can. I can almost never just sit and watch TV but I *love* knitting or sewing while I'm watching.

I kind of feel the same way, but what really gets me about hand sewing is the fact that I feel that my stitches aren't going to hold as well as the machine's will. So I often just wait for the machine.

Embroidery and applique are good portable sewing projects though too.

Soooo, this is awesome! I am the best at choosing projects (and purchasing fabric) and then I get sidetracked with another project... oh! squirrel!

I am all in- But in no particular order as sometimes I can work on things when the toddlers are napping, other times I have to squeeze it into the 2 hrs I have between bedtime and when the little one cries for boom. More when I think of them!

Finally finish the celestial quilt I started more than 3 yrs ago

Tackle the mend basket and win

Find a pattern for the brown cowgirl fabric and sew outfit for the bug

Find a pattern for the crazy bird fabric and sew outfit for the bug

and sew outfit for the foo foo

Turn my Maine tapestry into a summer dress for me (yeh! for me!)

Bathrobes for the toddlers

Swim robes for the toddlers

Large pillows for reading nook

I am SO in.  This is what what I need to keep my butt moving on the projects.  I want to try to make all birthday and Christmas gifts this year on top of the regular projects that collect.

OK, here is my list so far:

- book display shelves for the kid's rooms

- cloth sandwich wraps

- lunch bag for park picnics

- boo-boo cold compress dolls

- Waldorf inspired doll for Penny's 2nd bday

- matching aprons for Penny, Jack and me

- Rosie's 1st b-day present

- Terra's baby shower gift

- finish sign on J & P's puppet theater

- XL beach toy bag

I'm sure as the year goes on, I will think of a lot more!  I will make it my goal to do one needed project each week.  This week, I am working on display shelves for the kids rooms: http://pinterest.com/pin/58757970108025529/ http://www.frugalhomedesigns.com/2010/01/20-diy-book-display-4-shelves.html It's been a challenge because my daughter has chicken pox so I've been working on it after the kids go to bed.  Next week, if all goes well with Penny's pox, we'll be out of the country until late in Jan, but after that I am kicking butt on these projects.  Can't wait to see everyone's progress and pics and I will try my best to post pics too! :)

Kitchenqueen- you dang links.  My kid is 11 and I want to do a shadowbox for his baby stuff. I'm only gonna be about 12 years late when I get it all done bawling.gif.  Thank god I only have one kiddo.  I know his 'going home' clothes are here somewhere

One year J and I got the letters to spell his name and each letter was a different international city.  Like letter #1 was NYC, #2 was London etc and they were decopaqued and stickered etc then hung up.

He is totally into French and everything France so now his room is 'manly france' if there is such a think but I wanna do more letters for FRANCE with each letter a different landmark.  he would love that for his b'day.  So I need his four letters and four landmarks or something frenchy... hummm....

Oh KQ, you are making trouble for me.... such trouble...

Wha-hahahaha my master plan to wreck crafty chaos on unsuspecting households is taking effect! That letter thing is a good idea. And it's so awesome your kid is a Francophile! You should get on Pinterest and search for France and see what comes up....
