- went to work, compiled a report, cleared and organized desk, did some long overdue filing (among other things)

- made dinner

- washed more dishes

- made some plans for this weekend

- went to rehab center (with baby!) to coordinate my grandma's discharge and help her collect her things

- deposited a check

- listened to bible reading for week

- did most of next-day prep routine

- did 2-minute declutter of entryway area

- wiped down counters, quick-mopped kitchen/dining room floor, cleaned up after baby

Hello, we did go out today .... am spent now .... whilst i was mostly sitting down knitting in the play place we went to

.... but some of the vents were really noisy & listening to conversation in english (not my mother tongue) in a noisy environment => super tired !!!

- on the way back we dropped back a video rental & took another one (to buy me another hour of sleep tomorrow, didn't work out a few days ago, they did make noise at 6:40 am ....)

- stopped at the library so that DS would read a little bit (he did, a comics, better than nothing)

- walked back home via the baker but it was closed, nobody knows why .... should pop out again shortly to try to get us fresh baguette ...

- did a good hour of various housechores (sink/toilet/washbasin/bath, my 4 water points basically + changed one bed and started the washing machine + changed the bin liner, emptied our water bottle and sprayed them with cleaning product - we all 5 of us drink out of them so i think that they need some desinfecting after most every use ...), am glad we ate out at the play place = one less meal to take care of .... Christmas school holidays used to be 1 week and a half, now it's changed to two weeks, to make sure that the skiing industry get two weeks worth of customers .... am just looking forward to next week when all 3 kids will be eating at school 4 days a week !!!!!!!!

- rang a knitting shop in town, they DO have Tunisian crochets in 3 sizes (same size as a knitting needle but with a hook on one side) so am going to try to pop by tomorrow or the day after to buy them .....

- set both eldest kids to sit down to homework for 45 minutes (and there's some more to do)

.... i had announced a "TV free day" but i just needed a break at the computer & they did go and sit to do homework without grumbling ...

am about to go and try buy bread

+ must remember to the shears out, have been meaning to cut DS's hair for quite a few weeks, the more i wait, the harder it is ...

need to do that before i send him for a bath ...

I hope its ok to jump in here without having read all 62!!!! pages of the thread.

A little background about me: I have two boys, 3.5 yrs and 7 months.  I WOH about 25 hours a week from 12-5 pm.  We attend Waldorf parent/child classes in the mornings on Tuesday and Thursday so that leaves me three mornings a week to accomplish things during the week.  I currently have a cleaning lady who comes in once every two weeks for 3 hours.  She does just enough to keep the house presentable.  DH and I both hate cleaning but mess bothers DH much more than me.  I have always said that I have the infinite capacity to live in my own filth.

I'd love to be able to un-hire the cleaning lady and save the money but I really don't feel capable of keeping the house clean to DH's standards on my own.  I'm willing to give it a shot though.

First thing that I need your collective wisdom on is a vacuum.  We currently have a Kenmore canister vacuum that is heavy, cumbersome and takes 5-10 mins to get out, set up, change attachments, check filters, check bags, then break down to put away.  That's eating up a lot of cleaning time.  We have an even mix of hardwood floors and area rugs.  We also have a long haired cat so I need something that can handle pet fur.  Any suggestions?  I'm looking for something that it easy to get out and go, not too heavy because DS1 likes to have a turn (and I like to encourage cleaning love :)), and that cleans well.  It would be a bonus if I didn't have to change attachments heads to go from carpets to hard floors since with the area rugs, there's lot's of hard floor around the rugs in the same room.

Any thoughts/wisdom/advice?  The floors are my main concern at the moment because of soon-to-be mobile DS2.

Thanks for reading this far!

Not a very productive day. Today I:

Made the bed
Made breakfast

Put away some laundry

Washed dishes

Made lunch

Baked some rice

Made dinner

Washed even more dishes

Swept kitchen

I didn't get done the remainder of the laundry like I had hoped. Posting that I made all three meals because that's a big deal in this house. I've slacked off. :(

I didn't come on here for some reason the last couple of days.

Today I

Made breakfast, straightened kitchen
Had breakfast picnic-style in yard w DD (makes less of a mess & we get sun at the same time)
Straightened bathrooms
Put load of laundry in
Nursed & watched Portlandia
Made bed
Got DH to take out trashes
Raked, weeded, picked up, watered yard w/ DH
Cooked lunch
Swept & mopped kitchen floor, cleaned table
Cleaned up & dressed DD
Went to meeting
Assorted baby care & feeding

Drove around
Had dinner with in-laws
Worked on story revisions

My goal tomorrow is to stick to the new schedule/time map I came up with so I can get more writing & basic routines done before the baby wakes up. And get more sleep!

Hi AndtheStars, I know what you mean about having a newly mobile baby and the vacuum and wanting something that's easy enough to use & works well enough that it doesn't get in the way of you actually using it regularly. I also work part-time about the same number of hours, some from home and some out. My mom got us a vacuum I really like - when I get home I'll try to remember to post the brand/info.

Today I wanted to prioritize sticking to a morning routine and writing in the morning plus sticking to other plans for the day.

Made bed

Swished/swiped bathroom

Made breakfast

Pumped & washed parts

Reading/writing routine

Put out water for dogs

Volunteer time

Quick-mopped floor in bathroom & 2nd room & hallway

Prepped baby's lunch & bottle for sitter

Went to work

Baby care

Still need to

Make dinner

Clean up

15 min declutter in kitchen

Fold clothes

Restart laundry

Study for tomorrow

Quick vacuum

More writing & work @ home

And most importantly:

Go to bed by 10pm.

I have a dyson vacuum and it works well.. Its pretty light as well, my 5yo, 4yo and 1yo can run it without my help.
