How Do You Store Bath Toys? - Page 2

Periodically, I just throw the whole set of bath toys (they're all plastic) in the laundry machine. Obviously, no need to put them in the dryer :)

That isn't in the way when you shower?  Hmm.

Yeah, that would drive me nuts. Even if you put it at the other end of the tub, I could see it being in the way getting in and out, especially in a shorter length tub like ours.

That being said, my plastic bin in the windowsill is not managing to stay as dry as I had hoped. The water from showering gets up there more than I thought and everything stays damp at best. Sigh.

I'm actually really proud of the bath toy solution I came up with. I got one of those pole shower caddies from bed bath and beyond, something similar to this:

I put the grownup stuff, shampoo etc, in the top two trays, and then I ordered mini bungee cords from amazon and stretched five little bungees inbeteen the lower two trays. This makes it so you can put toys in the trays without their falling out. Does that make sense? It works great and the kids like being able to see all their toys and easily pop them in and out,

I used a little plastic basket that slid in under the sink. Haven't had any mildew problems, but I tried not to have more things they ever needed. Cups were always the most popular. Now only one girl plays with things in the tub and she usually brings them in the bathroom with her. I have a feeling she will do this for a very long time.

I use a metal colander/seive with foot.  We dump the water off/shake off the toys before putting them in.  If they are super wet still we leave the colander in the tub until the next showering person.  Otherwise we put it on a folded washcloth in the bottom of our cabinet, and I leave the door open (until my DH shuts it, which is usually that night at bedtime).

We have done this for years now.  It has been a great system - no mess, no mold.

I use a mesh zippered bag hung with a hanger on a rod for bath toys. I've been using it for over 3 years now and it works great. The toys dry out pretty well between uses.

It's no problem for us because nobody takes a shower in that bathtub.

It's no problem for us because we don't take showers in that bathtub.

I use a large plastic colander from the Target kitchen dept. We have a longer tub so the colander stays in the tub even during showers.. Any toys that can hold water are put in upside down and since the colander is plastic I don't have to worry about it leaving a rust ring on the tub. The toys periodically get washed so they don't get grimy.

I use a ditty bag (camping mesh bag for dishes) or one of those delicates laundry bag (for bras) and hang it on the hook overtop the bathtub, squeeze out any water in them before I put them in the bag, and no problems to date!

I love the boon frog pod it has holes so the toys drain, it has a spot for shampoo and the frog's fingers can be used to hang things on. Ours is hooked on the far wall of the shower. We chose to use the screws to hang it up but they also have suction cups and some other method to attach it to the wall. It doesn't get in the way of us using the shower, we don't have to move it around, it doesn't fall over. It's just there and not in the way yet still handy when the kids have a bath.

edited to add-looking at the frog pod it appears the suction cups no longer come with it, they did when we got it years ago for a baby shower gift. Maybe the ones from babies r us still have the suction cups.

We use a mesh bag w/2 suction cup hooks attached to bath tub wall.  It's easy to rinse off toys and they air dry completely.  Most bath toys are re-purposed things for pouring and playing or toys that get rotated in and out of bath play (plastic dolls or Little people toys).  My kids LOVE the special treat of a generally non-bath, but water worthy toy in the bath.  Everything gets dried out, nothing has ever gotten ruined.  I've always put things through the washer or dishwasher if yucky/slimey, and nothing has ever been ruined.  But if they remain yucky, time to toss.

I'm embarrased to say that my son is five and I have been storing my Ds's bath toys in a large plastic bag.  Its been driving me crazy b/c believe it or not I'm pretty organized everywhere else. I just could never find the right thing.   My place is small too. Tonight we went to Walmart and I bought a small white plastic laundry basket thinking it will allow the toys to air dry since its got fairly large openings all the way around.  I can just spray it off with cleaner and rinse right in the basket.  It cost about $2.  The bags would be too small for me and this basket I can move

to the other bathroom if needed.   Unfortunatelly, too may toys are now bath toys.  DS just loves playing in the water.  I'll just store it in the bathtub since this is his bathtub.

I let them dry in the bath then put them in a wicker basket. If someone who doesn't use bath toys (dp or me) wants a bath in the interim they just take the toys out and put them else where.

We have a smallish bathroom and 5 people using it.

In the past we've had various mesh contraptions with suckers but tbh they just dripped and then got mouldy.

see we have just the one bathroom too, with 5 people. So having some container that was getting moved around would be a pain. Having them sit in the tub would be REALLY annoying if we had to move it every time. This way (boon frog pod) they are in the tub, in the same spot yet out of the way. Now if we could get more vertical storage throughout our small 1928 house like the frog pod that would be spectacular!

About the moldiness that happens regardless of what you do to keep them clean, I found that soaking them in a bowl of hydrogen peroxide and water for a while, then drawing the solution in & squirting it back out a dozen times, cleans out all of that black sliminess. Been doing this with the same toys for 3 yrs running. Thought I'd share :)
