Does anyone have any ideas for homemade kitty litter? Thank you in advance :)

Not homemade, but if you're thinking cheaper and more natural, chicken feed works well, as do wood stove pellets.

I don't know about homemade either, but we usually use Yesterday's News. It's only about $6 a bag and one bag usually lasts us 2 weeks with 2 cats and scooping every other day. That being said, I'd be interested in hearing more about homemade litter if anyone does have suggestions for how to make it.

I know you can use shredded paper, like newspaper. You can also try to toilet train your cats (works better if they are not over 10)

Could you use sawdust? you could get that free lots of places!

I'm very interested in this idea, so I Googled it. Here's what I found:

Essentially the same thing, but some slight differences. I think I might try it after we move.

I use wood pellets, the kind you get for horse stalls although I have heard of people using the wood stove pellets. It works really well, minimal tracking and the smell is reduced, plus a 40#  bag is fairly cheap (around $5.) and lasts a long time. Shavings might work but I think you would be constantly sweeping the floor.

Just a heads up....many cats are very, very resistant to litter changes.  Just to warn you.  So if you encounter innapropriate urination that can be the cause.  Also whatever you decide to use make sure it is something that, when they groom themselves, wont cause harm.

I have heard of people using wood pellets, like the kind that are used in pellet stoves, as cat litter.
