he's usually really resistant to reading chapter books (doesn't like to wait to know how it ends), but loved the first 2 DOAWK. what else would he like?
I do believe there are more of them out there. DD has a few of them. I've read them and they are hilarious! Just normal kid jokes. You know the fart booger stuff. She reads them to her little sister. I'm not sure if there is anything equal out there right now but DD likes A to Z mystery books. I've read one and it was dry. She thought it was great. Just not funny though.
My son read and loved all of the DOAWK books and he re-reads them all the time. There is also a Do-It-Yourself DOAWK book that has encouraged my non-writer to write!
Captain underpants looks funny! I think I'll read it first then let DD1 have a go at it.
That's what we did. We got these in Kindergarten and my son was in public school since I was still in University. He was apparently "behind" in reading and they were sending him to a remedial class. We read these to him and he liked them so much, he wanted to read them himself. These books are what really got him reading. He just needed something he LIKED! Now he's been homeschooled since gr. 1 and his reading level and comprehension are waaaay above grade level (he's in gr. 3 now). He devowers books and it all started with Captain Underpants :)
My ds read these. We just got the latest from the library called cabin fever. He read that in a day.He got into these books and then he read all the Harry Potter books when he was 8-9.
He liked a lot of books with a bit of drawing in it.Got zombie comics too.
You might try the Andrew Lost series. They are funny and full of gross stuff, and designed to teach science concepts. Andrew has a shrinking machine and gets lost in the garbage, in the dog's nose, in the bathroom, etc.
