My DD is a NICU grad, 5 months actual and 2 months adjusted age. and as a result of being intubated for a week and having a feeding tube for a few months she has an oral aversion. We can coax her into bottle feeding but she kind of hates it sometimes, and won't breastfeed. She is tongue-tied, it may be causing some issues now and would probably cause her issues with breastfeeding but I guess I don't really know. I still try a few times per day to breast feed and she gets just pumped milk in a bottle now. She is scheduled to have it clipped next week. I am not worried about the procedure, but I am worried it will worsen her oral aversion. How did other babes recover from the procedure?

I was worried about this, as well, especially because my baby had to have her tt released twice because the ENT did not release enough the first time. She was born at 38 weeks, and was released the first time at 8 weeks (actual) and the second time at 13 weeks. She cried a lot the second time, which was very upsetting for me because she only cried briefly after her first release. It took half an hour of walking with her in the fresh air to get her calm down enough to breastfeed, and I feared I had made a terrible mistake. She did eventually calm down and breastfed beautifully for the first time in her life without getting a belly full of gas. Before this she had never nursed to sleep, and afterward she was a much, much easier baby. I nurse her down for all of her naps, and for bedtime most nights. She tolerated the stretches to keep her tt from reattaching well, and we are still going strong with our breastfeeding relationship at 11.5 months. I wish you and your baby all the best from the bottom of my heart. Let me know if you have any other questions. Our situations are different but I will try to help if I can.  Â
