Charting to Avoid/Fertiltiy Awareness January - Page 2

JMJ and Mt_Gooseberry-

thankfully it was only the first 2 days this cycle that were oddly heavy.  last cycle, the first after birth, it was incredibly heavy and I did get a bit worried as it was 4 days and way more blood than I expected.  I've never been anemic since getting my diet in order, and never eat processed foods or junk.  so all my foods are traditional/nutrient dense items, i don't normally drink caffeine (though I have a bit lately due to mood swings), and no sugar.  but it was also one of my longest cycles at 63 days.  which I have done before since documenting (not charting), and it's almost like i have 2 periods every 2 months instead of 1 a month.  Very excited to start charting and not worrying about temps as i am not sleeping.  ah, teething.  c'mon top teeth!

and also glad that you're here so that I kept somewhat charting for the last 2 cycles, so i'm in the rhythm of paying attention.

when i look back, i realize i've never had normal cycles of any ilk, and hopefully will get Marilyn Shannon's book soon b/c i think that would be a very nice shift in my life.

Welcome Blessedwith7!

And thanks for helping out, Physics girl.

So, my temps seem pretty low to me. The last three days they have been 96.7, 96.9, and 96.8 (preovulatory). Am I a reptile? haha... Does anyone know low do they need to be before you start thinking about thyroid issues?

What time do you usually take your temp?  I have had a couple that low preovulatory but only when I took it early, at 5 or 5:30ish.

Yeah pretty early, between 5:30am and 6am usually! But then I go back to sleep :)

breastfeeding affects temps and thyroid function. ii cant remember if you said if you were or not. constantly below 97 is supposed to indicate thyroid issues. esp if they dont stay above 97 after o. mine were like that but i was bfing dd2. i started taking evening primrose oil and my temps went up a little. there is a book out there about healing ourselves and using the bbt chart to diagnose. i cant remember the name. i was reading a list of books and got pregnant before finishing them. it would have been the last book on my list.

Infojunkie, the rule of thumb is 97.2 or below.  I wouldn't freak out about a few temperatures, though, or even one low cycle.  Do you have other symptoms like feeling tired all the time?  It could also be related to your early wake-up time or a cold house... it is January...

i have not used the shettles method. but i have read a lot about it on ingender.com. that site doesnt always work but it has great info on swaying. they have lots of studies on what affects gender and whatnot. diet, exercise, etc. they say for a girl the biggest thing is lots of dairy. i can say i was drinking and eating nothing but dairy when i got preg with my girls and absolutely no dairy when i got preg with my son. they also talk about timing and stuff too. it might be something to look into.

http://www.ingender.com/XYU/  lots of good info. just look around but the forums are acting up.

Hey all! Sorry I haven't' been around much. Been having a pretty tough time lately and think I may be suffering from PPD. greensad.gif I think it is much harder this time because the baby didn't make it. Anyway, I am on my first cycle after the m/c, just O'd on CD21. My CM has been really weird, TCOYF keeps telling my I didn't O, so I keep having to change my fertility signs to temp only. Can someone take a look and see if it looks right? I am hoping my LP starts to lengthen and things get back to normal soon.  Thanks,

Physics Girl~ My link is wrong too. It is going to my previous cycle. Here is the correct link:  http://www.tcoyf.com/forum/chart.asp?id=buterflymomma   Thank you so much for keeping the this thread running. smile.gif

Sorry to hear you have been dealing with PPD buterflymomma :(  PPD is so hard, and I can't even imagine what it's like for you,  under the circumstances with the loss of your LO.

Butterflymomma, I'm sorry to hear that you're dealing with PPD.  I hope you're getting the help that you need.  It's so easy when you're struggling with depression to just not feel like doing the things that might help.  Your chart looks great!  By the 3 temp rise rule, you'd be fine this past Saturday.  Most people also like to cross-check with the CM, and it looks like you've got a great dry up that would have you at P+4 yesterday.  If you wanted to be extra conservative because your temp dropped to the cover line (I don't think it would be necessary, given the previous temps in your cycle.), you could wait until today, but you should be totally in the clear for the rest of the cycle unless something really strange happens.

BTW, that link to your chart isn't working for me.

Infojunkie~Thank you. Oh and disregard the asking to change my chart link. I meant to address that to Physics girl. I changed it. Sorry.

JMJ~ Hmm Try this one    http://www.tcoyf.com/forum/chart.asp?id=buterflymomma

Not sure why the other wasn't working. Thanks for the info. My husband will appreciate it. :) I am under the care of a pdoc and he just increased my medication. I am hoping the increase helps out. I also see a therapist once a week. So, just waiting for the meds to kick in. Hopefully it will be soon.

butterflymomma-  blessing and peace to you during this time of loss, healing and hurt.  hoping you get things to a better place soon.

and blessings to the rest of the momma's out there right now, those expecting, just had babies, trying to avoid and trying to conceive!

being a woman is a very challenging thing during this constantly changing time, and I'm grateful for all of you here, and for all the women who support me in my life.  don't get me wrong, i love my man too, but i must say, the support of other women is really essential for me right now.

Can taking benadryl/antihistamine affect cm quantity and/or quality?  I'm trying to get rid of an allergic skin rash and may cave in and take an antihistamine.  Not sure what the rash is from yet but I'm thinking my body may need the antihistamine to kick it out and then I'm hoping to figure out what caused it by slowly reintroducing all the many changes I made in the last couple mo.  My fertile phase is coming up shortly and I don't want to interfere with the cm signs.  Anyone know if taking benadryl would make a difference?

Thanks!

Sorry butterflymomma for the loss of your lo and having to go through ppd.  Saying a prayer for you.

Keeping you in my prayers butterfly mama!

Yes, I believe it can affect both (read it in the TCOYF book).  Antihistamines dry up mucous across the board, not just in your nose. So it probably will mess with your chart a little bit.... I assume you've already tried the hydrocortisone topical cream?

Butterflymomma, yes, that new link works.  I'm glad to hear you're getting some help, and I hope things start to get better soon.

Cassi, I agree!  I don't know what I would do without the amazing women in my life.

Blessedwith7, yes, an antihistamine can dry up your CM just as it can dry up other mucus.  You may choose to abstain on the days you take it if you are watching for the start of the fertile phase.

Thanks!  I had a suspicion that an antihistamine may mess up my cm.  I have only tried natural treatments so far: organic lotion, witch hazel with eo, aloe vera gel, washed with honey smile.gif, and vitamin c.  If I could just figure out what it is that is making me break out; but smart me changed soap, shampoo, laundry detergent, and my daily vitamin all within a couple weeks!  I think I will just hold off on the benadryl, I wasn't too thrilled about taking it anyways.  I've been living with this for a couple weeks already and I really want a clear chart this month.

Buterflymomma, I think I have the correct chart linked now. You and your family are in my prayers as well.

Hey everyone. Just starting my fourth cycle charting--loving it so far! I'm noticing, though, that I'm tending to have very short luteal phases: about 6-10 days. We're planning to start TTC this summer, which is a bit away yet, but is this something I should be worried about at this point? I'd love to have a longer LP because that means more post-O days we can go unprotected. :)
