Hey y'all,
I'm just curious if this is going around in your neck of the woods and if you've gotten a diagnosis or know what this could be. My girls both got this virus around Christmas. Dd2 got it first and had some severe ear pain one night, but woke up the next morning and her ear didn't hurt any more. I had given her ibuprofen, warm rice bag, massage and elderberry lozenges. She had a slightly runny nose, but not very bad, and a lingering hacky cough, but not too junky sounding. Dd1 got it w/in a day or two and it got in her eyes and made them mucusy and the lids became very dark and maybe a little puffy and she looked really tired. She had itchy, uncomfortable eyes that bothered her a lot and it looked a lot like pinkeye, but only lasted 1-2 days. A few evenings later she had a really bad earache, but again, it was gone quickly even before bedtime. Dd2 had some residual hearing difficulties (I'd say her hearing was about 85-90%, just slightly worse than normal), but that seems to be clearing up. Neither one of them had much of a runny nose, just a little bit. DD1 didn't have much of a cough, either, but dd2 tends to get coughs more. No fevers. I never took them to the dr because dd1's eyes were right over Christmas and I didn't think it warranted a trip to the ER on Christmas day and dd2's ear cleared up by morning and wasn't bothering her any more. I was considering taking her to make sure on the hearing issue, but she told me her ears popped at school today and I'm not noticing her having as much trouble hearing so that seems to be clearing up, too.
Unfortunately I think my elderly mom has caught the same thing and is not dealing with it as well. She actually developed perforated eardrums, and she also has the same eye symptoms. She's being tested and treated by her doctors and while it's really knocked her for a loop I don't think it's too serious, but I'm just wondering what in the world this thing is. DH and I neither one got it.
Any ideas?
