Absolutely disgusting.

"Surprisingly, during same year pediatrician Enrique Smith, one of the lead investigators told reporters: “Only 12 have died throughout the country, which is a very low figure if we compare it with the deaths produced by respiratory illnesses caused by the pneumococcal bacteria.”"

As usual, babies are being treated as collateral damage.  Sickening.

This is so horrible. I would like to think tat if it had happened in the US, there would hve been media uproar, but there probably wouldn't. And its not just our babies that are dying, but kids too. So far 100 girls have died from the Gardasil HPV shot. When will it be too much??

Nope.  There have been illegal and unethical medical tests on children without consent for years and the stories only come out many years later.  The powers that be have control over the media.

Sounds like murder to me.....manslughter at the very least and they get a fine? which if you do the math isn't all that much when you consider the worth of GSK. Disgusting. I think it's a joke that people trust big phrama companies and ANYTHING they say.

I find it concerning that this piece of news is nowhere to be found on "Western" media outlets - I checked US news and German news (and only the Spiegel.de had it, no newspaper or big TV station). So unethical behavior like that is just swept under the rug and not even reported. Only UK outlets reported it very little as GSK is British, but that's about it.

According to the description of the trial in The Lancet, the fourteen deaths were in the placebo arm of the study.

Kind of makes you wonder what was in the "placebo." Vaccine trials rarely (if ever) use true placebos. True placebos would make the side effects of the vaccine too obvious.

The experimental group got the experimental pneumo vax plus other standard vaccines like hepA, hepB, DTap, IPV, Hib. The control group to the standard vaccines: hepA hepB, DTap, IPV, Hib. http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT00466947

The deaths aren't the only issue - what about forged signatures and pushing parents into the trial? That is pretty bad.

Informed consent is crucial, especially with trials. I'm glad it's being investigated.
