I don't know what to do... I just went to the on call weekend doctor since everyone we normally see is out for the weekend. My son has had a fever since yesterday morning. It's not anything horribly unusual or horribly high, but since we were supposed to visit family this weekend, I took him to the doctor. On the phone she mentioned strep, but when we got to the office she just looked in his ears and his throat and listened to his breathing. She said she didn't think it was flu, and said she heard more noise on one side of his lungs than the other, and if it were even on both sides she would attribute his wheezing to his allergies. She mentioned that if we did an xray that it *might* show some pneumonia but that she wasn't going to do an xray because it wouldn't change the way she treated him. She said it could be bronchial or just something that's going around but she didn't really make a decision about what my son is sick with... but she prescribed me an antibiotic and sent me on my way. No strep test and no xray on his lungs.
I feel really really weird about this. I've had a (very) sick kid with pneumonia before and that sorta scares me. Am I wrong to feel like I would be more comfortable if the doctor was more sure about what is making my kid sick? I don't generally like to do antibiotics unless they're actually called for, but *might* have pneumonia??
I really don't know what to do.
