Raw, Veggi, Vegan?

Thread Starter
What are the differences?

Is raw just 100% uncooked veggies?
Does Veggi include Milk, cheese and eggs?
Is Vegan 100% Vegatables all the time?

Sorry if I sound out of the loop, but I am trying to eat better and loose weight as well.

I also just feel run down and tired, and I am also thinking about doing a total body detox.

Raw -- ppl who only consume raw meat and veggies, as in uncooked or unaltered... they believe cooking kills all the live nutrients and important enzymes destroyed by cooking, baking, and steaming..

Vegan-- ppl who will not consume or use anything in their lives that comes from an animal.. it does not only pertain to a diet but to everday things as well.. Such as not buying fur, leather, not using products tested on animals... etc etc...

Vegetarians -- now there are different levels and names...

Strict vegetarians are vegetarians who do not consume meat or anything derived from an animal.. but will still purchase leather products etc...

Lacto-Ovo are vegetarians who do not consume meat but do consume eggs and milk products

Pesco i believe consume fish and/or chicken... dont quite me on that..

I think i covered most if not all that you needed... any more questions dont be afraid to ask... the vegetarian and vegan ones are always cause the most confusion... cuz some strict vegetarians call themselves vegans or say they consume a vegan diet... but veganism isnt a diet its a lifestyle... (im sorry if i offended someone not my intent)

I would encourage you to do the detox. I can't because I am bfing but I can't wait to do it.

As you lose weight and change your diet, toxins that are built up and stored in fatty areas of your body release. THis acn cause that "diet fog" you are describing.

I just want to clarify on the raw bit...

raw meat and veg is kind of misleading... The largest majoring of raw foodists are also vegan, though some do use raw (unpasteurised) milk... I have yet to hear of a rawfoodist who actually eats raw meat, though I used to eat sushi... Fruit plays a major role in raw food eating...

There's also a another eating culture = Fruitarians. Strict fruitarians eat only the fruit that has fallen from the tree (seasonal fruit) - so as not to take from another living species on earth...

Less strict fruitarians eat all fruits and nuts and seeds as well...

yes there are raw foodists who do eat raw cheese, milk, and meat... there are several cookbooks on how to prepare such raw fare and i did find alot of websites and forums where ppl do eat raw meat... i got the links from a book..and returned it to the library so at this point i do not have the book name... or the link.. as i am vegan i didnt spend much time on their... except to ask how safe the meat is raw etc... and they had lots of answers and such...

probably most who are raw are vegan but there are quite a few who arent...

Wow! I've never heard of a raw foodist eating meat before now, obviously haven't travelled in those circles! Gosh, can't imagine it. My dh once had a serving of Beef tartare (sp?), which is premium raw beef mince in a hollowed out mound, in the hollow you place a raw egg... Just the though of that leaves me cold... He didn't know what he was ordering when he ordered, LOL! Imagine his surprise , but he was too polite (or proud) to say anything about it, so just ate up... EeeewwwwW!

yeah.. i think its gross... but some ppl like it.. so hey... at least im not eating it... :LOL

NO ANIMAL PRODUCTS IN MY BEAUTY PRODUCTS, ETC> But I do eat eggs and some cheese (rennet free of course) and honey. Pesco vegetarian---- that's a load- fish are alive therefore one is NOT a vegetarian if one eats fish!

How do veg*ians cope with the people who are veggie for health reasons, not ethical reasons? Isn't Dr. Ornish's program mostly vegan, those people wouldn't have any ethical motivation behind the description.

Apricot - I'm curious to know what you mean by "cope with vegans who are veggie for health reasons rather than ethical reasons". Why do you have to cope with them?
Just the inevitable: Oh, my sister-in-law is vegetarian, and she eats fish (or chicken broth or eggs or whatever) so I thought you would too.

Yeah, rereading it, cope is the wrong word. But they are muddying the waters. To say that you don't use animal products because you care/respect/love/believe you shouldn't eat animals is ALOT different than someone who says, I won't die if I don't eat animals, so I don't.

In the part I quoted, vegiemom says that people who eat fish aren't vegetarians because fish are an animal. While I don't disagree with her, there certainly are a lot of vegetarians who eat fish. Doesn't a word get it's meaning from the general use?

I guess I'm thinking of the "veggie wraps" at Arby's. Remember those? No meat, but the dressing had geletin. Fundamental misunderstanding of vegetarian, in my opinion, fueled by non-ethical veg*ians.

No, NO vegetarians eat fish- sorry!

I'm not being a pain. But the simple factual matter is that vegetarians DO NOT EAT FISH!

I'm doing the raw vegan thing, and I feel great! I've never felt so overjoyed and energized. People must think I'm on some sort of medication. I'm not. It's just my food!

Michelle Leigh... and others if they can too!!

Could you possibly post/pm a basic idea of what a raw vegan menu for a week might look like for you? I am very interested in trying raw vegan, at least for a time, as I feel like SH*T!!! Your description of how overjoyed and energized you feel entices me to the idea even more. But I'm kind of at a loss as to what meals would actually be like... Any ideas, hints, advice, useful links would be great!!

Also, what detox diets do people recommend?

Thanks!! Anthea.

Wow, really old thread resurrected. There are some really good raw food videos. I like the Annie phyo. I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling. She does recipes.
