tv to watch in front of 3 yo

Here's the situation: sometimes DD sleeps in her room, sometimes in ours.  Regardless of where she sleeps, she needs me to stay in bed with her until she's fallen asleep.  For several reasons (me being tired, the coldness from the winter, etc) she's been staying in our room most nights.

When we're in her room, I read until she falls asleep.  When we're in my room, sometimes I read, but sometimes I watch TV.  By TV I mean a Netflix DVD- we don't have cable and it's an old TV so we can't get any antenna stations either.  I've only been doing this since the early summer, and so I've just been working my way through the complete series of The West Wing.  Well, now I'm almost finished with the last season and I'll need something new.

The problem is that I can't find anything else similar to The West Wing as far as appropriateness in front of my DD.  I want a show with no sex, no violence, no cussing, nothing scary, no drugs...that sort of thing.  I have a few David Attenborough nature documentaries on DVD, and those are good, but I've watched them a million times already.

Any suggestions?  Remember, it needs to be available on DVD from Netflix or the library.

Documentaries were my first thought, although some of the nature documentaries can be bloodthirsty and language/swearing is probably an issue in others.

BBC or PBS historical costume dramas? I'm thinking of Pride and Prejudice and that sort of thing.

Even the British detective stories, like Midsomer Murders, are often genteel - a glimpse of a body but not much more, and it's usually signaled well in advance.

Old musicals? Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly etc.

Old romance movies (Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant etc.) They always had to cut away before any sex scenes, thanks to the Hollywood censors. Language was pretty tame too.

Can you get home repair shows on Netflix?  They are all good.

Well... there is "scary" and "violence", but we watch Dr. Who when our 10 month old won't sleep.  It's pretty much the only thing we can enjoy that we don't feel like theworstparentsinthehistoryoftheworld for watching with her in the room, and at this point she recognizes and smiles at the theme music.

Plus - it always turns out OK!  Not sure what that might teach her about life later on... but we'll burn that bridge when we come to it.

My library had all the DVDs of the TV show "Dinosaurs", which is like a sitcom from the early 90s, with costume dinosaurs instead of people. Maybe a little dorky, but I enjoyed it a lot. Also The Cosby Show. And ALF. Cosmos is my favorite documentary series, and it is really beautiful and soothing. Maybe the movie Napoleon Dynamite.

A lot of the mid 70's stuff is pretty tame. And I love the series " Larkrise to Candleford" put out by BBC.

I did love Meerkat manor!
