Ds just turned 3 and started private speech therapy. Â We had an OT eval b/c of sensory issues and when the eval came back I was blown away. he has fine and gross motor issues, along with stability (vestibular) issues and was labeled with 'global hypotonia'. Â After reading about it, hypotonia explains almost every issue we've had since birth. Â However, he seems to be losing some physical skills and I'm wondering if it could be related to hypotonia, can hypotonia become worse with time? Â He's been completely toilet trained for more then 6 months but has been urinating on himself very often. Â He almost always wets himself to some degree before he realizes he has to go to the bathroom. Â About 3 months ago we had to buy a carrier, he stops walking. Â He says 'his body won't let him', I thought that he was just being stubborn until I noticed that he isn't nearly as active as he was several months ago. Â At the playground (where he used to be a climbing fiend), he can barely negotiate climbs he could do a year ago and spends much more time just running in circles around something. Â He will often just stand with his hands under the water fountain instead of playing, even when his friends are there. Â I've had to fore him to do fav things like go to the zoo or ride his bike. Â He wants to lie down and play trucks or just roll in the couch cushions. Â He is barely taking part in parallel play, wich is differant then months ago. Â At night he chokes on drool to the point of gagging. Â At the same time he can't seem to keep his body still. Â We've always co-slept but is having to move out of our bed due to extreme movements while he sleeps. Â I have woken up with bruises from his kicks and head bangs while he sleeps. Â He falls whenever he runs, tripping over nothing and will literally fall over when carrying things like a large truck or pillow. Â
Â
I think I should prob call our ped, but don't know what to say or what to ask for. Â Can anyone give me some guidance? Â I don't know how to help my little boy or what (if anything) we may be facing.
