AAP issues warning that "toxic stress can harm children for life"

This article was really interesting to me, but this part especially jumped out...

 

"Cues of a hostile or indifferent environment flood an infant, or even a fetus, with stress hormones like cortisol in ways that can disrupt the body’s metabolism or the architecture of the brain."

 

 

You mean like when a newborn is strapped down to a circ board and sensitive tissue is cut away while nobody listens to their cries for help? This makes me feel so sad for little boys in US culture greensad.gif

Now I should add, in the spirit of fairness, that the article is about ongoing stressors... but the fact that stressors early in life have such an impact on brain development means that "circumcising early because it isn't as traumatic" is B.S.
