Ouch!

The underside of my right breast has been hurting for the past 24 hours or so. I'm hoping it's not a blocked duct. My question is, will there be a hard spot or lump if it's blocked? I don't feel any lump and after DD has nursed on that side, my breast is soft and "empty" feeling like normal. The other possibility is DD's newfound athleticism :) She has started kicking her legs pretty hard when she's sitting propped up against my knees with her legs on my stomach and she tagged me in the chest pretty good the other day. It might also just be a bruise.

Hi rainface! A blocked duct can be too deep to palpate as a lump. If I were you I'd go ahead and treat it like a blocked duct: Nurse that side first, nurse often, massage before and during nursing, warm showers w/breast massage, warm wet compresses, nurse upside down.. kellymom has great info on this. I'm just starting to get over a bout with mastitis; avoid at all costs!!

Thank you Katie, I'm going to go ahead and treat it like a blocked duct and be proactive with it. I do not want mastitis, for sure.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

I've had great luck with taking 4 doses of 1200mg Lecithin (sp?) to treat my plugged ducts. Good luck!

I'm feeling much better, I think I was able to head this off. I am going to pick up some lecithin though, so I have it on hand in case I need it. Thanks!
