Doctor rec.- Memphis, TN

Hi all!

I am new to the site and I am in desperate need of doctor recommendations for Memphis, TN. We are moving to Bartlett, TN in February and I will be 30 weeks pregnant. I have to pick a doctor quickly and I know very little about the doctors in the area. I want a doctor who is not going to push induction on me, who is supportive of natural childbirth, etc. I need any and all suggestions since I will be in the 3rd trimester when we get there.

I'm also looking for recommendations of pediatricians who are supportive of or at least tolerant of a delayed vaccination schedule.

Any suggestions of who to absolutely avoid would be great too!

Thank you!! smile.gif

Hope the move goes well for you. If you some help getting started with finding some like-minded mamas in the Memphis area, I highly recommend joining the Alternamamas of Memphis group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/alternamamasofmemphis/

We even have a doc that has natural birth-minded doctors and other natural birth-oriented recs like doulas and midwives. I don't have any recs on OBs as I'm having a midwife-assisted home birth, but I can say that I absolutely love my midwife. There is also a doc (might be in the same one as alt-vax-no vax friendly doctors. All Better Pediatrics tends to be the #1 recommendation, particularly for those who don't vax, then a couple docs at Laurelwood Pediatrics and a small handful of other doctors.

Anyways, definitely join the group on Facebook. You'll get lots of support from some great women. :-)

Sorry to hijack, but I am looking for a ped recommendation in the same area.  I actually live an hour away, but I am willing to drive to Memphis.  I'm actually planning ahead.  My sons have had the same doctor since the first one was born.  They both had delayed vaxes.  My 2 y/o has 4 shots needed to "catch up" and my 4 y/o will "need" 4 shots before kindergarten.   I'm not sure how their doc will react when I tell him I don't want any more vaxes for my boys, or if there are even any docs here who will support me.  (The 2 y/o had eczema as an infant and a peanut allergy confirmed recently.  In researching for his case, I have decided to stop vaccinating altogether.)  I need a back-up. Can you tell me which doctors from Laurelwood Pediatrics are specifically non-vax friendly?

I have also requested membership to the Facebook group.  Thank you!

Hi! The two main pediatricians I have been told are good are Tamara Folz (who actually has a Facebook page) https://www.facebook.com/#!/allbetterpediatrics

...and Dr. Hanson at Laurelwood Pediatrics.

I have not visited either yet, but I am going to see Dr. Folz first and if we like her then I think we will stick with her. I have heard she is a breastfeeding advocate and is supportive of parents decisions regarding vaccinations.

The Facebook group mentioned in the post above is GREAT! I cannot say enough about how much awesome information I have received from these mamas! :)

Thank you for the information! I see that Laurelwood has nice hours of operation, including 7 pm closing on weekdays and some Saturday hours, too.  That would be nice, considering we will be driving an hour.  I will keep Dr. Hanson in mind if I get shot down by our ped here.

Let me know how it goes with Dr. Folz. :)
