~Demeter~, this is your spotlight thread! Lucky #1!

This is YOUR thread. People can ask you questions, and you can answer (or not, your choice). Or you can just share if you want to. It's up to you!

To get the ball rolling, here are a few starter questions!

  1. Backstory! Tell us about you, where you came from, how you got to where you are now.
  2. What are you craving right now?
  3. If someone handed you $1000, no strings attached, what would you do with it?
  4. What's your favorite type of soup?
  5. Talk about your house a little-- are you happy where you live? Best part about your house? Worst?

  1. Backstory! Tell us about you, where you came from, how you got to where you are now.  Let's see... I'm 32, been married for 14 years now. I have 5 kiddos 16, 13, 10, 4, 13m... and hopefully this babe will be #6 (and the FINAL one, lol). I have always lived in Northern Illinois, though not always the same town... I like it here, mostly.... except for the snow. lol
  2. What are you craving right now? I'm actually eating my craving... had a taste for scrambled eggs with ham, cheese, and onions and hashbrowns. Yum!
  3. If someone handed you $1000, no strings attached, what would you do with it? I would probably use it either as a downpayment on a rental or to help facilitate declaring bankruptcy so we can get into a new place.
  4. What's your favorite type of soup? I have 2! Split pea and I love cream of potato :) Yum!
  5. Talk about your house a little-- are you happy where you live? Best part about your house? Worst? Actually... I'm not happy here. I'm living with family, we just lost our house and this is where we had to land :( I honestly can't wait until we are on our feet enough to get back into a place of our own. Best part about being here is it was a safe place to land, catch our breath for a little while... the worst part is it's small so there's not a lot of room for all of us and the clash over parenting styles. This IS forward motion though... and we will make it through this. :)

You mentioned in another thread that you have orders to make....what are they for? smile.gif

Also from previous posts, you sound very intuitive and in tune to energy. Is this something you've always been aware of, or did you have to cultivate it?

What do you use your intuition for?

Whats the biggest blessing of having a large family.

Whats the biggest challenge of having a large family?

You mentioned in another thread that you have orders to make....what are they for? smile.gif I make and sell cloth pads :)

Also from previous posts, you sound very intuitive and in tune to energy. Is this something you've always been aware of, or did you have to cultivate it? It's something that I know I had as a child but was always discouraged from talking about or demonstrating. When I was in my early 20s I had a terrifying dream that my oldest son's biological father was going to die in a car accident (I was with him like in spirit but not in person), he died 7 days later... in a horrific car accident. I think that kind of spurned me into cultivating that ability further.

What do you use your intuition for? Occasionally I do readings for people, myself. I pay attention to certain kinds of dreams I have because they are the prophetic ones... I'm usually always informed after I conceive a baby and also have predicted numerous pregnancies with my circle (online and in person). So I guess... mostly I just let my intuition lead me wherever.

Whats the biggest blessing of having a large family. Never a dull moment, lol. There's ALWAYS something going on here... my house is always loud and vibrant, I think that's something I missed being an only child.

Whats the biggest challenge of having a large family? Making sure everybody gets along, is heard, and having time for everybody... one on one time.

I have some other fun questions for you. smile.gif

What movies have you seen lately, that you really enjoyed?

Have you ever spent time as a vegetarian/vegan?

What is your #1 hot topic and why?

What kind of car do you drive and do you love it or hate it (or are you ambivalent about it)?

What is your favorite TV show or movie of all time?

If you had to choose one childhood toy you adored, what would it be?

What movies have you seen lately, that you really enjoyed? Water for Elephants and No Strings Attached. I really liked No Strings Attached and was very surprised, just seems so out of my scope of things I want to watch. I'm not much of a movie watcher in general.

Have you ever spent time as a vegetarian/vegan? I had a short stint, lol, in my late teens/early 20s... problem is my body really does crave meat and I need it at least a few times a week to feel healthy.

What is your #1 hot topic and why? Hmm... lately? It's been the pro-choice argument... though for me it's really not about abortion, it's about the right to choose. My other hot topic issues are schooling, vaccines, and breastfeeding... oh and people's perceptions of POOR people (those on assistance, etc) I don't know, I guess I can get all fired up about a few things, lol.

What kind of car do you drive and do you love it or hate it (or are you ambivalent about it)? I own a 96 Chevy Lumina, I loved it when I first got it but now we all don't fit in it and well... hubby has been driving it more than me, lol. I do enjoy driving my grandparents minivan and hope one day soon to get one of my own. I'm going to need it. O.o

What is your favorite TV show or movie of all time? LOL I LOVE Charmed and Scrubs. I've watched both series from start to finish more than a few times, lol. Hmm... movie... I don't know? Perhaps the Harry Potter series?

If you had to choose one childhood toy you adored, what would it be? I always loved my dolls... does anybody remember Baby Heather? lol I had one and loved it. She went from a baby to a toddler. My family has always known I would have tons of kids because of my obsession with dolls and babies that started very early on. :)

1. How did you chose your username? How long have you been using it?

2. What do you think is the most important thing for women to remember/concentrate on during pregnancy?

3. What was the best thing about being an only child?

1. How did you chose your username? How long have you been using it? Demeter has been one of my personal Goddesses for most of my life, I feel kindred to her? I actually haven't been using it all that long... couple years now maybe?

2. What do you think is the most important thing for women to remember/concentrate on during pregnancy? Wow... that's a good one. Umm.. there's a few things, one labor... but I don't think that should be a sole focus. Envisioning what you want out of labor, I guess is what Im trying to say, lol. The changes happening within her body, positively. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up worrying about weight gain or size... but really I think all pregnant women are beautiful in their round fullness. And of course, focusing on the new life that is within you.. forming a bond and connection with baby.

3. What was the best thing about being an only child? I don't perceive anything to have been the best, lol. I wouldn't say I had an ideal childhood... but it has definitely made me who I am today, the mother that I am and the person that I am.

Love the opportunity to pick the brain of a mom of so many kids ...

1. What's the hardest thing about parenting for you?

2. What age (for your kids) is your favorite, and why?

3. Which of your kids are boys/girls? Is it true that boys are harder than girls til about age 9 and then they flip?

1. What's the hardest thing about parenting for you? Being able to divide my time and attention 'evenly' and to those that REALLY need it, believe it or not sometimes my teen needs more of me than the little one does.

2. What age (for your kids) is your favorite, and why? I've enjoyed a few ages.... I really like the wee baby stage because they're all so wee and cuddly and snuggly, 3-5 yrs is fun because of their curiosity and zest for everything they do and then with my older ones I enjoyed around 13-14ish when they fall all over themselves trying to help me out with the littles (unfortunately that does NOT last, lol)

3. Which of your kids are boys/girls? Is it true that boys are harder than girls til about age 9 and then they flip? My first 3 are boys.. my last 2 are girls. I'm finding my girls to be all around harder than my boys ever were.... and I'm desperately hoping that it doesn't get too much worse when they get bigger!

If you were meeting someone you'd never met before in a busy public place, how would you describe yourself to them so they would know who you were?

What part of your physical appearance to you like best / least?

Do you talk about body image with your children? How?

If you were meeting someone you'd never met before in a busy public place, how would you describe yourself to them so they would know who you were? LOL.. I would probably either email a pic or forward them to my facebook, lol. Otherwise I'm the short, petite brunette with lots of kids, lol. I'd probably describe one of my slings or wraps better than myself, lol.

What part of your physical appearance to you like best / least? Um... I guess I like my eyes best... least, I can't really come up with anything. I would love to have skin like I did in my 20s?? but it's something that happens with age, I guess.

Do you talk about body image with your children? How? I can't think of any set discussion we've actually had about body image. I try to lead by example.... I don't ever say I'm fat (even if I feel that way), I place reasonable emphasis on being active and healthy but don't get obsessive about it. We didn't used to have cable TV (and likely won't when we get into our own place again) so we aren't being inundated by images of too thin starlets too frequently. :)

What's your favorite holiday and why?

Do you like carpet on your floors or would you prefer wood/tile/other?

What are you most nervous about with this pregnancy...the pregnancy itself, the fact that there is a new baby to adjust to, etc?

What are you most looking forward to, when baby gets here?

What's your favorite holiday and why? I've been pretty bleh about holidays lately, I generally really enjoy Thanksgiving because of all the food, family, and thankfulness. I also love summer holidays because of the feeling of freedom, no worries or cares :)

Do you like carpet on your floors or would you prefer wood/tile/other? definitely wood if I have a choice!

What are you most nervous about with this pregnancy...the pregnancy itself, the fact that there is a new baby to adjust to, etc? Announcing and the response I'll get from family. I"m a bit nervous that things aren't really right in there and that's making me all the more hesitant to say anything.

What are you most looking forward to, when baby gets here? Holding a new babe, snuggling with a new babe... adding in extra love to my life <3 <3 <3

I LOVE THIS!!!!  And I really like you Demeter!

on to the questions:

What are you top 3 must have baby items?

How many bedrooms do you want in the house you are hoping to have soon?

What are your favorite go to recipes to feed a large crowd?

Do you have to do all the cooking right now?  (Sorry, really curious about that one.  LOL)

I sympathize with feeling like things might not be right with the pregnancy (despite having seen the heartbeat twice in my case).  So, my question is:

Have you had your first check yet?  If not, when is it scheduled?  Or do you even plan to have any ultrasounds along the way?

Have all of your births been full term and/or vaginal?  Hospital, home?

Thanks for answering ;)

What are you top 3 must have baby items? A nice woven wrap, boobs, and.... I guess a bouncy seat. Really, I'm such a minimalist when it comes to products because none of mine really needed/enjoyed being too far from me early on, lol.

How many bedrooms do you want in the house you are hoping to have soon? I'm hoping for 4... but will settle for 3 if there's a finished basement. :)

What are your favorite go to recipes to feed a large crowd? My crowd likes Shepherd's Pie (ground beef, creamed corn, mashed potatoes, cheddar cheese) Beef Stew is another favorite here.

Do you have to do all the cooking right now?  (Sorry, really curious about that one.  LOL) No... my grandfather is actually cooking more than I am lately. It's actually something of a blessing right now because in the first tri I'm not very motivated to cook at all, lol.

Have you had your first check yet?  If not, when is it scheduled?  Or do you even plan to have any ultrasounds along the way? No. I haven't had my first check, nor do I have one scheduled yet. I'm not really sure which doctor to go with... or if I should see the one midwife in my area. I'm kind of at a loss right now in regards to what direction I want to go in terms of care. The reason, I think, I'm worrying is because 2 years ago I got pregnant around the same time (was due late july/early aug)... I wound up telling my family who all responded poorly and then I miscarried. I have a HUGE amount of fear of telling just to have the same thing happen... If I go with a doctor we'll probably have at least one u/s. I plan on hopefully getting my doppler back from a friend soon so I can search around for signs of life.

Have all of your births been full term and/or vaginal?  Hospital, home? Full term all them. 1. 42 weeks/induction/vaginal delivery 2. 41w3d induction/vaginal delivery 3. 41 weeks induction/vaginal delivery 4. 42 weeks (my count, 44 weeks traditional counting) induction/vaginal delivery 5. 41 weeks natural labor/vaginal delivery with vacuum after I transferred to the hospital. All were delivered in hospital... I would love a homebirth, but I'm really not sure it's in my cards.

Nice to get to know you!

When (IF!) you have any available time, do you have a hobby you like to do just for yourself?

What kind of schooling do your kids receive?  Public, private, homeschool, other?

When you were a little girl, what kind of family did you envision having? Number of kids?

What is THE most important lesson you want to teach your children?

When (IF!) you have any available time, do you have a hobby you like to do just for yourself?  I used to enjoy painting.. with so many little ones spread out though it hasn't been something I could continue. Hopefully some day I'll be able to pick it up again.

What kind of schooling do your kids receive?  Public, private, homeschool, other? We homeschool, I tend to follow their lead and interests... I have one kiddo whose passion is music. He just picked up an electric violin for Christmas so we are having fun learning all about that. :) My other two are pretty solidly into gaming BUT I try to balance their interests elsewhere by getting them out and about or interested in something beyond the screen. My 4 year old is into Egyptology and dinosaurs... I find her intense interests fun. My baby girl is all about sorting and putting things away. :)

When you were a little girl, what kind of family did you envision having? Number of kids? I always wanted a large family.. I can't say I ever had a set number in mind, 6 seems a good place to stop. lol

What is THE most important lesson you want to teach your children? To love what they do... to feel passionate about life. I suppose really it's different with each kiddo, but those are the two things I think more people could benefit from.

Hey there!  This is all so interesting, and I must say, you (even tho we don't know each other) are an inspiration!  Thank you for sharing!

1. How do you balance time and affection w/ your husband and all those children?  Do you have 'adult' time, go on a date now and then, schedule time???  Are you able to spend one on one time w your children?  How do they respond to 'sharing' you?  Any advise?

2. Do you get burnt out?  How do you re-focus and stay calm?  Do you ever lose it?!!?

3. Are you reading anything?  Do you have any suggestions for good prego reads?
