Funny food cravings? - Page 3

Glad to hear it's not just me craving the lemon water - it's so delicious!  Much tastier than plain water, which is boring to me right now.

So I see a lot of aversions to meat - I'm a vegetarian and I am craving meat.  Someone brought in a plate of BBQ ribs today and the smell was so delicious I almost grabbed the plate away.  I've been eating lots of eggs, cheese, yogurt, nuts, and legumes to get my protein.  Not sure what's going on there.  And, I'm struggling.  How much of a craving is what you actually need vs. what just sounds good?  I really don't see myself digging into a roasted chicken, as delicious as that sounds right now.  Any thoughts?

Hey calpurnia7! Pregnant or not, usually when people crave meat it's the fat they're after. Try eating avocados, flax/olive/hemp oil, more nuts, etc. You might have also been triggered by the tanginess/saltiness of the BBQ sauce. Most experts think that cravings aren't a clue into something that your body is after, at least not in a precise way. For example, many people crave potato chips, but it might just be the carbs and salt that is appealing. Similarly, people with pica crave eating non-food items like dirt, which reveals a mineral deficiency that is better treated by eating healthy foods than dirt!

Nothing seems to have any rhyme or reason (or consistency) in foods I want or can even tolerate to eat... except for smoothies!  They never sound bad to me!  And two mornings ago I had gotten some cara cara oranges and I juiced four of those, put in a big ol scoop of honey greek yogurt (probably 1/2 cup at least) and a banana into the blender (then tossed in a half-dozen ice cubes) and... Oh. My. Heavens.  It was perfection.  Seriously the very best thing this planet had to offer right at that very moment!!!  I've been craving another one since then.  But, dh has worked long days and taken our only vehicle and I didn't want to make my mom get that for me (haven't told her yet we're having another baby!)... so I waited until this morning to run to the grocery store -- we were out of oranges, bananas *and* greek yogurt!!  ... I got just normal oranges (way more on sale... I couldn't justify paying twice as much for the cara cara oranges) and the bananas needed to ripen a bit more... but.. I made a smoothie anyway!  It was darn good, but not quite perfection.  I probably should have splurged on the oranges ;)  And waited a day or so for the bananas to ripen... but I NEEDED IT NOW!  ... I might just have another one this afternoon ;)

Thanks for the suggestion!  I have been having a bit of seafood, but no other type of meat.  It's interesting what you said about tang and whatnot - I find mustard, pickles, and other yummy spreads to be very satisfying.

Last week I was craving bacon cheeseburgers (only had 2 my whole pregnancy,) and this week it's turkey and swiss cheese....hmm...

I'm also eating this every day, usually at 2AM:

2 scoops chocolate hemp protein powder

one banana

flax oil

a dash of spirulina

milk to the top (of the magic bullet)

sometimes a TB or so of peanut butter

Blend. Yum!

I'm having some power of suggestion problems, so the mention of a bacon cheeseburger means I will eat one before the week is out. YUM! sounds great!

Me TOO! Anything anyone else is eating or discussing becomes what I want...and most restaurants I drive past!
