Poor "neglected" pets in my house

Every night after River goes to bed, my two cats, Oden and Jasper, beg for attention from me. Sadly, I usually choose to pick up the house, make dinner, eat, do dishes, spend a few minutes with DH, and/or play on the computer. Poor guys. I used to call them my babies and brush them 3-4 times a week. I think they've been brushed twice since River has been born, they look so shabby. It used to be that when I walked in the house, they would greet me at the door and I would scoop them up, one at a time, and cuddle them. Right now, Oden is curled up next to me, happy to just be near me. Jasper even lets River grab at his tail and pull out his hair, because sometimes it's the only attention he gets from me. Sigh!

Anyone else want to post about their sad, neglected pets? Here's how much attention they use to get, pre-baby:

I hate to say it, but my pets totally get the shaft now that I have 2 kids.  We have 2 dogs and 1 cat.  The cat doesn't seem to care that much and just likes to hang out in the general vicinity of where we are.  The dogs use to get more walks, but I just can't take the dogs and 2 kids for a walk and we don't really have time for a walk at night when DP is home.  I feel the worst about my oldest dog (going on 14) who mostly just annoys me because it seems like she always needs something right when both kids also need something and will start barking or whining.  (she has a hard time getting up, is partially blind, partially deaf and sometimes falls down).  I actually think we are moving towards having to make a decision about it being her time, but are kinda avoiding it cause that's hard too.

My cat is totally neglected. I'm trying to be better. We often do a morning cuddle  in my chair so the cat hops up and I pet her while Charlie stares at her in awe, tries to get any part of her into his mouth and sometimes pets her. He actually does pretty well with it, too. Though, that grab and twist happens sometimes.

She's in several of my Charlie videos trying desperately to get my attention. She can't sleep with us anymore because we kind of tried and she lied laying on him. Uh, no.

She's about 17.

This s her hanging out in the corner of the bed while I nurse the baby. I'm the big red lump ;)

The cat in the ring sling is hilarious! I was reading on some website about a baby store that actually sold a ring sling to a lady who wanted one for her cat. We put our little cat, Piper, in the Bjorn... injuries to mama ensued...

We have two cats and they don't get any attention hardly other than being fed and the litter box being cleaned. redface.gif Piper has compensated by being extra obnoxious and crazy and loud.  She has zero boundaries about sitting on Mirah when I'm nursing to demand attention and loves knocking stuff over if we don't pay her attention.  Bailey is not so bad.  She looks genuinely concerned when Mirah cries and comes over and sniffs her and looks all distressed like she wishes she could do something for her, it's pretty cute.

My cats act out for attention too. I swear they know when River's sleeping on my lap... they'll get on the kitchen counter (a big no-no in our house) and stare at me, like "what are you gonna do about it, huh?" I can't yell at them or get up because I don't want to wake the baby. I keep threatening to get some kind of nerf gun to shoot them with. Poor kitties, they would probably love that actually.

Becky, your old girl is so cute! I hope my guys stick around for 17+ years.

We (charmingly) keep things near where we're sitting to throw at the cat so we don't have to yell. Because yes. She's a shit.

And yes! She's going to live forever :D

We have three little Dogs. The 13 year old barked every time the baby cried for the first month. Especially in the middle of the night. We started telling her a lot about the SPCA. I haven't figured out how to walk three dogs and a baby and it seems cruel to leave one home so no one gets to go. Thank goodness for the dog door. I do really love the dogs though and swore I wouldn't be one of those people who neglect their pets after the baby is born- the just seem so much more annoying to me now... Probably because they need a walk!

Well, and pets are nasty.

Like my charming cat who came from the litter box and dragged her butt on the baby's floor blanket. Luckily she did it right in front of us (though we do try to always pick it up).

But!! :P

AAAHHH!! Our cat is doing similar things....becoming MUCH more vocal (to compete with the baby?)  Every time I was nursing in the living room, Cambria would climb into the Christmas tree...and stare at me. In our house we "hiss" at the cat when she's misbehaving, but when I hiss at her while nursing, it scares the baby!! So, she learned pretty quickly that I couldn't do much when she got in the tree. She destroyed it! LOL
