So since my almost 9 year old was little she cough's after she has been running around a lot. I always make her stop running and  just breath. My friend (who grew up with untreated asthma and has a son with more severe asthma) told me she thought that maybe Jewel had asthma, which I had kind of been wondering about myself. She said kids will cough to try and get more air into their lungs. We finally went to the dr's and I told them of my concerns, that she had sports induced asthma (I myself had it as a kid) and they asked her about it. She said it was only hard to breath if she had been running and it was cold outside. No other time. Then they just wrote her a prescription for an inhaler. It just seems weird but I don't know anything about asthma at all, my mom never had mine treated and just told me to stop running (and when I told her about the dr's and how they said if it's not treated it can get worse she told me "well, you're the dumba$$ that kept running, I told you to stop" Thanks mom.) I don't want to be the mom who doesn't treat her child's condition and if she wants to do sports I don't want her to turn gray or just not be able to do it. The doctor said to keep one at school one at home, if she starts coughing and having trouble breathing to  use the inhaler. To keep track of how much we use it between now and the next appointment, and if there is a certain activity that always causes the coughing to use the inhaler before hand.

I guess I am just off-put by how easily they gave her medicine for something without looking into it further, but maybe this is how it is usually done?? Any info would be great. Thanks.
