Our little girl Lyra was born at home early Monday morning. 49cm and 3010g (19.3in/6.6lb). Born at 39w1d.
I woke up around 3 when my water broke for real (after days of off and on leaking). The contractions followed within a few minutes. After about half an hour of pacing around, I asked my husband to call the midwives, as the contractions were already about 2 minutes apart and strong.
Soon afterward, labor intensified, and I felt that my body was beginning to push. Her head was crowning, so my husband
helped me to climb into the bathtub. A few seconds later, she came out, caught by her daddy.
He wrapped her in a towel to keep her warm while we waited for the midwives to arrive. It was a sort of awkward position, standing in the bathtub with her umbilical cord hanging out of me. Our 2.5-year-old was awoken by my scream as I pushed the baby out. He came into the bathroom, saw the blood in the bathtub, and said "red!" He didn't seem the least bit bothered, though he was very excited to meet his new little sister.
The midwives arrived a few minutes later, just in time to deliver the placenta.
