Hard day - need a hug...

Hi fellow SN mamas,

Today has been such a hard day. My 9yo ds was supposed to go on a field trip but he got really anxious and didn't go. Life is getting more and more complicated and affected by his autism. There are so many things he can't do because of anxiety.

I'm a single mom and have sole physical custody and I spent so much time advocating and trying to get the appropiate help. It's a huge battle due to the recession and cut backs affecting social and educational services.

My stress levels have been alarming for years now and today I felt like I just can't go on. Just standing felt like hard work. I wish I good stay in bed for a week and have someone bring me tasty and healthy food. One can dream...

Thanks for reading!

Couldn't read and not post. My DD (PDD) had to skip a field trip recently, too, because of anxiety. Just want to let you know there are others out there who get it. I hope the day gets better for you. grouphug.gif

hug2.gifIt is so tough seeing your child feel anxious.  Been there, too, through lots of forwards and backwards steps.  Seriously, if you feel like you need the rest, take it; and if preparing tasty, healthy food feels tough, then find the best you can that's prepared!  You need and deserve breaks when the going is tough!

Hug to you! I had a rough day too. At one point I even thought, I did not sign up for this!!! So sorry you are on your own. Do you have a close friend or relative that can watch your DS while you catch a movie or hit the spa? Little breaks can really help. I need to follow my own advice! Hang in there!

grouphug.gif  My DD has also skipped field trips because of anxiety. It sucks.

hug2.gif Been there several times ourselves. We had an emergency session Friday night with DD1's therapist because of her anxiety.

Also in the same boat with DD. Her anxiety since returning to school after the Xmas break has been off the scale. It's so hard for her and for us. You're definitely not alone, Mama.

We've had days like that too, several. So i can offer you my empathy.

But I do have a question. Would you mind describing to me how that anxiety plays out and how you end up not going on the trip? I'm pretty new to figuring out the role anxiety plays in some of DD's resistance behaviours and I'd love to hear what it looks like for other families when this happens, just to see if I'm on the right track here...
