After a December miscarriage, we are ttc again. I'm determined to do everything possible to avoid another m/c
and have done lots of research re this. Among other things, I've increased my folinic acid to 2400mcg/day. I've read that excess will just be excreted in urine, but that taking a good amount of folinic may prevent issues that can lead to miscarriage. I am in the 35+ category, so I think I may really benefit.
Â
I saw my cnm today for my last post-m/c appt. She is super sweet and truly wants to help me hold on to my next baby. But, she is concerned re the folinic acid and says she read "something" recently that she can't remember that makes her think that over 1mg is unsafe. So, she wants me to cut it back to 1mg.Â
Â
FWIW, my cnm is semi-crunchy but works in a pretty mainstream practice. (As in, I was the only one to have ever asked about declining a procedure that I think is pretty common to be declined.)Â So, she just may not have the knowledge about supplements, etc.
Â
I've looked around online and found only 2 concerns with high intake of folinic so far:
1- masking a b-12 deficiency
and
2- potential for creating problems for those with heart issues.
Â
I don't have either of those problems. Still, what she says makes me think that I may need to reconsider my folinic intake.
Â
Just wondering what you guys think?
Â
Thanks!
