Our daughter Rowan was born at 528am on her due date, january 10th at home after mega-fast two and a half hours of labor and nearly three of pushing. Her shoulders got VERY stuck, and thanks to my incredible midwives she is here with us in her 8lbs 8oz of sweetness :)
The birth was intense - contractions were a minute long and 2 minutes apart for the first hour, longer and closer for the 2nd... then pushing her super wide shoulders out was exhausting. BOTH midwives had to reach in and hook her out to give you an idea (yet I did not tear, not bad for a first time mama ;). A lot I am still processing. A few other intense details and rarities (both mws had a chance to do "once in a career" things - go full moon! They said 'thanks for the adrenaline rush afterwards')
I am recovering slowly (as is my poor dh, it was a ride!) but aside from waiting to see about a pubic bone injury from birthing Rowan's shoulders (as I can't really walk yet) I'm in love.
I'm so grateful to have birthed at home - I have hardly put Rowan down, and I know that in hospital I would have had a hard time avoiding some very serious interventions. Pics and full birth story to come!
