I love that the DH's reactions are so *over the top* and I must admit, several years ago my DH might have been the same. I'm glad he's come around though and offering up his help to save us about $175 :o). I had actually already paid the lady 1/2 as a retainer and she refunded my money this morning via paypal :o). I do still think I will use her for professional maternity photos because after this many babies I've never had THAT done before. Ah, and my DH is a fireman so he has a bit of experience with gross stuff (some of the stories I can't even handle!)
The PBi website has lots of great info on it too, but from everything I've read the lady that *owns* it really is out to just get your money. You are not required to have any kind of certification to do placentas in the US but it is very important that you are OSHA compliant to prevent the spread of blood born illness. This is the exact reason I will be wearing lots of safety stuff when doing it for others. I am offering that now and if I find someone in my area that wants it done I will do it at a deeply discounted price until I get a few under my belt. Oh and about PBi, there were several months or closer to a year or more where the owner did high pressure sales to get you to BUY in to her program AND you had to turn in paperwork to her regarding the placentas you did + pay HER a commission on your encapsulations LOL I found another group that has a training course but most encapsulators are not certified by any group because there is no group that regulates it ... if that makes sense?!
So, I live in Raleigh NC if anyone is interested in having this done. I expect our baby to come 4 weeks early so if you are delivering mid to late June I would love to help out. Eirual, I haven't seen any "scientific" studies but I would trust the testimonials of moms before some male Dr told me not to do it .... IYKWIM?
