Q1) I need to buy a new big boy bed for my 3 year old and I need it strictly fire retardant chemical free. I had posted this query some time ago here and got some response but was inconclusive.
Â
I hope to be more specific in this post:
Â
I want to avoid latex, as although it seems to be most favorable chemical free mattress, i am worried about my son having/developing latex allergy over time. He has multiple allergies to various other things as of now.
Â
Ideally i would like a twin/full which is an all cotton and somewhat firm. I might then add a layer of organic wool on top of it to make it more comfortable, if that makes sense.
Â
Does anyone have/know of/seen such a mattress combination? My budget is around 500$ and I do not mind some DIY stuff to cut costs (although I am not really good at sieving and knitting stuff). Where can I buy such layers separately?
Â
I have a sample of White Lotus Organic cotton and wool boulder firm mattress and it seems great. But the mattress is out of my budget. Is it really worth the price? Should I look into the green cotton boulder firm mattress instead? Green cotton (not organic) wrapped inside layers of wool won't be that harmful right?Â

Q2) Somewhat related to above yet a separate question: We have Sterns & Fosters firm king bed with some memory foam layer on top and we like that bed. However since I heard of the off-gassing of such mattresses a few months ago, I am unable to rest easy on it with my kiddo who might mostly prefers to sleep with me even with his separate big boy bed. We do not have the time and budget to go all natural with our king size bed since selling this new bed (2 year old) will be a loss and buying new will cost a tonne.
Â
How can I convert this existing bed into a less off-gassing one and still be comfortable so that I won't mind my son to occasionally sleep on this one?
Â
Â
Thanks much in advance.
Dsk.
