I love our new boxer!

Tank is 4 or so, and was found running the streets with his fellow escapee brother, Axel.  (Tank's a front door bolter.  Any tips for handling that?)

Axel found a home first.  Tank was bummed, but now he's happy!  He's about 80 pounds.  He's so calm and sweet and tolerant and funny!  When he gets excited or smells food he blows drool bubbles.  He wags his whole butt.  He snores, farts, and burps.  He's just such a sweetheart.  He's fully housetrained and came to us knowing sit and stay.  He has good house manners.  I can't believe no one claimed him!

Just want to share a picture of our newest family member!  (My husband made the raised food bowl holder!)

aww what a sweet looking guy!! Glad everything is working out for you!

As for front door bolting, I would teach him to sit at the door. A couple times a day leash him up, get some treats. Ask him to sit before you open the door, open the door slowly, if he moves from his sit, close the door, if he sits while it opens give him a treat. Its a good start to introduce boundaries and self control around the door.

Awesome!  Thank you!  This sounds better than trying to pull back on 80 pounds of muscle every time someone comes to the door.  He's our first big dog, so I'm a little clueless as to how to manage a dog that is stronger than me!  He has a halter, and it helps some.  But he pulls a lot on a leash too.  And he eats Legos.  Other than that, he's a perfect guy!  :P

haha! legos do look pretty tasty :P As for running at the door when someone comes, i know how hard that is lol I have 2 that used to do it, now when someone knocks they go straight to their crate, it took a while and a lot of knocking on the door but they got it eventually, we basically just had someone knock and then sent them to their crates.
