Posting for a friend- her son is now mostly weaned, he is 12mos old. Please no flames on her decision- I'm not here to post about that. I agree that breastfeeding is best (I'm nursing my 2yo through my pregnancy despite the pain!) and don't agree with her decision- but I am here to support her and give her the resources she needs.
Her son won't touch cow's milk, and when he has drank it he has thrown up. He is okay with cheese and other dairy.
She is doing almond milk for a milk substitute (doesn't want to do soy or rice) but I have recommended coconut milk as the medium chain acids are similar to those in breastmilk- right?
I've also recommended avocado, fatty fish like salmon, EVOO, Coconut oil, and putting butter on veggies. And good cheeses for snacking :)
What else? He loves beans and she's starting eggs with him, so protein is good. She's getting him a good multivitamin too.
I also want to add that she is low income, so if anyone has any tips in that regard.. she is getting her food stamps card in the near future. That should help. She goes to school full time, but is not working yet.
