Has Anyone Delivered at Bassett in Cooperstown, NY?

Has anyone delivered at Bassett's new birth center in Cooperstown, NY?  I am switching my care to the midwives there since it is one of the closest VBAC friendly facilities available to me.  Just wondering what experiences anyone may have had both with the hospital and the midwives.  Thanks!

They have a great reputation. My sister delivered there but this was 19 yr.s ago! They even had Ina May come and talk back in the 90s.

Can you travel? They used to be fantastic, but they have taken a serious turn in the past year. They have all but eliminated their midwives and now rely on hospitalists (essentially, per diem OB/GYN) for a majority of the moms who come into L&D. Two Bassett nurses recently came to our doula meeting in Albany and they were very disappointed with how the level of care is being handled now, but they did say they are still getting a good portion of natural births from moms who labored at home until the very last minute. This might be something to think about if traveling is not something you can do. Have you considered having a doula? I'm a student based out of the Capital Region and would be glad to work with you and provide services at a very low cost or gratis if needed. Drop me a line at motherschoicebirth@gmail.com, I can also see if I can get int touch with one of the nurses that spoke there (she is also a training nurse midwife) so she can speak to you about Bassett.

Wow! That is so sad to hear. There policy used to be everyone gets a midwife unless there are high risk issues. I second getting a doula. I had all hospital births and wouldn't have done it without a doula. They are fantastic and they even know your name without looking at a chart!
