Clothing that doesn't fit anymore...

What should I do with these clothes?  I don't necessarily want to give them away, but I'm not sure how long it will be before they will fit again.  Of course, there's a possibility that they might never fit again!

I have a small closet, so I was considering boxing them up and putting them in the attic.  Good idea?

Any advice?

I would box them up (in plastic bins) and put them in the attic.  You'll want them just in case!

I'm boxing mine. Getting rid of them will clutter my life with the necessity of:

1) earning money to buy new wardrobe

2) finding time to go shopping

3) trying on dozens and dozens of things, in hopes of finding the rare ones that fit great

4) doing alterations - lots of my clothes need those

I put mine into a storage box under the bed.  You do want to hang on to them until at least 6 mos pp, when you'll have a better idea what your body shape is doing.  I was back in pre-pg clothes at a week pp with DS, but even at 2 years pp my shoes and rings didn't fit.

With both of my previous pregnancies I actually wound up smaller than when I conceived at about a year or so....so definitely save your clothes!  You'll probably find you need a wide range of sizes as your body returns to "normal" :)

I'm keeping all the clothes I would have kept if I hadn't gotten pregnant. they look comically small to me now, but I have a feeling (hah!) that I'll be able to fit back into them a bit after pregnancy. I'm still wearing a good number of the stretchy pieces... at the very least, I have options if I do end up losing weight, and if I don't, I'll donate later.

I totally see merit in putting them away until you know whether they'll fit again. I think it's making me feel more mentally cluttered to have all the useless clothes around. I think boxing and putting into the attic is a good way to go.

Oh yeah, especially if you plan on more pregnancies.  I have a few bins of clothes, and I just pull out whatever happens to fit at the time.  We recently upped our life insurance, and the agent asked if I had lost or gained more than 10 lbs in the last year.  I said, "That's not fair!"  And then he looked at the paper again and said, "Oh, not due to pregnancy."

Those 10 (to 60) pound weight gains and loses every other year for the last 7 have made me pretty grateful for my stash.  :)

(But, I do find that when I get around to those clothes again, I still wind up giving a lot away because they are dated or I just don't like them or whatever.  And, loosing all the weight, and then some, doesn't necessarily mean that things will be arranged the same way.)

If you have anything that's "trendy" (I don't know, like a certain cut of blouse or particular length of skirt) that might look out of place or frumpy a year from now, I'd get rid of those now. But if it's mostly timeless stuff - simple sweaters, tshirts, plain button downs, jeans, etc - box it up and store it if it's not too much of a pain. You can always revisit a year or so post-partum and see how that baby weight is treating you. I ended up having to toss most of my old stuff (never did get back into those size 26 jeans, haha, and my breasts stayed a size up so many of my snugger sweaters didn't fit anymore), but since most of that stuff was 10 years old anyway, I didn't mind so much. It was worth a shot though!

This is exactly what I did.

And like the decluttering advice says, if it's still there in a year and I haven't worn it I'll give it away.
