First Time Momies Due September! - Page 3

Thanks 2sweetsparrows and planteater. We're still on the fence about it, but my RN partner is looking into studies also.  Our fertility clinic is very cautious and conservative, so it would surprise me if they did this without good reason.  I think I'll definitely ask that the output power is set to the lowest possible setting as per the link you posted, sparrows.

I'll keep you folks posted on any other info we find. And definitely let me know if your mom comes across anything. Thanks!! smile.gif

Welcome Efairbankstiphat.gif!!  Congratulations on your pregnancy!!  You are a little past midmonth you must be around 7w.  How is your pregnancy going?

Hi 2sweetsparrows! Thank you. I am just about 7 weeks, tomorrow or wednesday. The nausea definitely came on stronger this past week and I am terrible exhausted. But I am loving every moment, knowing what it all is about! I don't have an appointment until Feb 13, so I am trying to kill time until then. We are very excited, though!

Not good news:

Just wanted to let you know that I lost my pregnancy on Friday at 8 weeks.  I went in to the MW Tuesday for an early u/s and she couldn't find anything in my uterus (although that may have just been because it's retroverted...) and my hcg level was really low (290 for you number folks).  It happened at home on Friday - I'm feeling better this morning but of course just devastated.

Does anyone have tips for physical recovery after a loss?  I've been thinking about red raspberry tea or something else to help with healing but there's not a ton of information out there.

Good luck to you all - hope to see you on the parenting boards in the future.

Oh stitcher, I'm so sorry. I can't even imagine what you must be going through. I wish I had some tips for recovery to share. I hope your heart and body heal quickly.

I'm so sorry Stitcher!

As for recovery it really depends.  If they saw nothing in your uterus (so maybe blighted ovum or an embryo that stopped growing early on), the process may be physically easier (and closer to a period) than if you had an 8 week sized pregnancy in there.

Red raspberry leaf tea helps a ton, as well as nettles tea for the iron replacement.  Keep hydrated, and just watch yourself for fever, chills, or other signs that something may be amiss.

((hugs))

Stitcher,

My heart goes out to you.  RRL tea and Nettle has been suggested already.  I second that along with lots of water, good nutrition and rest, rest, rest.

So sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry Stitcher...hug2.gif

I also had a blighted ovum lost at just shy of 8 weeks. I would encourage you to go over to the Birth and Loss board, they have great resources and wise women.

I am so very very sorry to hear of your loss- totally just sucks- most research I have done says you absolutely have a great chance of going on to have a healthy pregnancy.  As far as healing- I ended up going to therapy for the first time in my life after my first loss.  I can say to stand in the fire and allow yourself to feel the grief and loss.  It takes time to feel better.  Take good care of yourself.

Hello all!

Wow it has been really hard to see losses come in the Sept DDC here.  My heart goes out to each and every mama who lost their little angels.  The research I have read stated that it is very likely even after 3 or 4 miscarriages to carry a healthy pregnancy to term, in the mean time the grief and loss is almost too much to bear-

I wanted to update you all on my U/S- so here is what I posted on the weekly chat:

biggrinbounce.gif I saw a perfect little one with 120hb heartbeat.gif 7w1d exactly what they thought- so great.  I will go back next week to my OB to reassess meds and start on our journey.  I am over the moon, I hope hope everything keeps up as I did see a HB before my last loss- but that was at 6.5w so fingersx.gif for a healthy healthy little #1 babyf.gif-

*Sigh of relief*

I hope everyone is getting by- I am feeling horrible but am tracking along- just want this baby in my arms!!

Congrats everyone!!!

I'm pregnant for the first time and due September 20ish. We tried to get pregnant for 26 months before this, and not one single "close call," so needless to say I'm THRILLED.

Unfortunately, the last two weeks of my pregnancy have actually been unbearable. I went for my first prenatal checkup and I wasn't measuring correctly according to my LMP. *I* knew I couldn't base my dates on that, as I have a variable cycle that hovers around 38 days. They basically called for a mc. We switched to a new OB, who isn't so eager to say my only pregnancy isn't viable. Now, we're pulling for growth at our next ultrasound, which is this Friday. Please send me vibes, if you would. :)

Good luck Jilimy! I'm sure the waiting is horrible for you, but Friday will be here in no time. It is no surprise that you're not measuring "properly" according to your LMP with 38 day cycles! Why don't medical practitioners understand something so simple?! Crossing my fingers for good news, and feeling very positive for you!

I posted in the weekly chat, but I wanted to share with the other first time mamas that if you're contemplating getting a belly band, I wholeheartedly endorse it! I'm wearing one at work right now and I can't believe how comfortable it is and how well it functions. I'm very happy to be able to lengthen the use of my work clothes. If only I could be in yoga pants all day!

Thank you Planteater!

I'm scared/happy/terrified/ecstatic all at the same time. I know that what will be will be.

Oh, and I feel like I'm already in need of a belly band. Baby or not! ROTFLMAO.gif

Sticker, I am so, so sorry for your loss. Hang in there and know we are pulling for you.

Hi ladies, I just thought I'd poke my head in. I've been hanging out over in the October DDC because we got an Oct 2 date from the midwife.  But, we just got a Sept 30 date from the fertility doc who did the insems and the 6 week ultrasound on Monday.  I know the babe will likely come in October, but I like chatting over here too. It's good to be able see what to expect a few weeks from now. :)

As for the 6 wk ultrasound, it was awesome. We saw the tiny heartbeat, and the wee babe measured at 6w3d even though s/he was only 6w1d.  I didn't get the heartbeat count like you did Sparrows, but the doc said everything looks great.  It was such a wonderful experience, and a huge relief too!  Sparrows, I'm so glad your u/s went well also!

Stitcher, I'm so very sorry for your loss. Take good care of you right now.

Jilimy, I posted this over in the other thread, but good luck today. FX!!

How's everyone else feeling?  My nausea has been very, very mild (not unusual for my family), and it goes away as soon as I eat something. I'm really tired all the time, as in 845pm bedtime, but otherwise feeling good. I just realized that our first trimester ends on the day before our 1-year wedding anniversary, so we can announce on our anniversary. joy.gif

Stitcher, I'm so sorry. I went through this last October. I took MegaFood's Blood Builder to make sure I didn't get anemic. You could also continue your prenatals.

xo Big hugs to you!

What I typically hear at midwifery conferences is concern with the heat that builds up in Dopplers, more than ultrasounds. Doppler is a much more concentrated form of ultrasound. The heat works as conduction and convection, especially with bone tissue.  There are quite a few articles when you do this Google search:  https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8&q=doppler+ultrasound+heat+convection+bones

That said, I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks for dates, am doing the nuchal fold at 12.5 weeks and the anatomy scan at 20 weeks. Can't help myself. :) What I am trying to consider, is if I will only have my hearttones checked at midwifery appointments with the fetoscope instead of the Doppler. I will allow the Doppler during labor though.

Here's a study that found a correlation between (lots of) exposure to ultrasound and abnormal neuronal migration in mice: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1538990/?tool=pmcentrez

However, this isn't particularly useful because animal studies aren't predictive for humans (e.g. http://www.peh-med.com/content/4/1/2) and, moreover, the amount of ultrasound used was much more than would be used in routine ultrasound in pregnant women.

I have come to the position that I will have ultrasound if there's a good reason to (even peace of mind!) but not otherwise. I think this strikes a good balance for me. ETA: At this point, I am thinking this will amount to two ultrasounds for me, possibly three. But who knows!
