Hi, does anyone know of a good quality and size chalkboard?  My Donna Simmons Christopherus recommends getting one and I have seen pictures of people using them for Main Lesson but don't know the quality scale etc.

I'm also interested in hearing the answers to this!

I got some from from http://montessori-n-such.com I have a med sized blank one and then one that is drawing space on top and the writing lines on the bottom. they have them in several different sizes.

In fact i'm going to order a coupe now so i make sure i always have enough for each child + me.

You can also make your own with an empty wall or smooth plywood & chalkboard paint.

I have a porcelain on steel one (It's about 4' wide by 3' tall and it was about $140) by Quartet that I really love.  I also have a frameless 'slate' board from http://www.billyboardsmfg.com/Frameless-Chalkboards.html and it's also nice quality.  They also sell porcelain on steel, but I got the slate just to try it (it was cheaper and was for a bedroom so I wasn't as worried about it being top quality).  So far, no issues with it.

Another thing is chalk.  I only use Prang - I got a lifetime supply on Ebay when I got it.  Definitely read reviews on any chalk that touches your board!  I read bad things about, for example, Crayola.

thank you!  I will look into the porcelain on steel.  I have my high end chalk but it is a shame to use on the chalkboard that I have

interesting, I use quartet chalk for white and I really adore it. The ambrite prang (sp?) colored chalk is great too.  We have amazon chalk boards for the kids..

What does the porcelain and steel feel like? look like? huh?
