What would cause spotting at 9w pp? My baby is still exclusively breastfed, but he did have an 8hr stretch of sleep w/o feeding the night before the spotting came on. I also started exercising a week ago, like 40 min on the eliptical most nights. My period didn't come back until 11mos pp w/my first who I breastfed, and I haven't had any other bleeding since 6w. Is it just some weird hormone thing going on?
Probably a hormonal thing. There is something called 'the 8 week bleed' that happens to some women pp after they've already stopped bleeding. It happed to my sister, but then her cycle didn't return for 6 more months.
Also, if a long stretch of sleep was going to make your period come back it wouldn't happen for a few weeks. The long stretch of sleep would induce ovulation and then you'd have to go through to luteal faze, so that's just a coincidence.
Again, statistically speaking it is very unlikely to be related to fertility and even less so b/c you are breastfeeding. However, you do need to consider any red blood (and/or fertile looking cervical fluid) as potentially fertile and take the necessary precautions until you have established your BIP (basic infertile pattern).
So happy to see this thread... I had pp bleeding for three weeks. Then I had a couple days of light bleeding at 6 weeks pp. Then again at 10 weeks pp. I thought for sure my period had come back at 6 weeks and then again at 10 weeks - but I'm 18 weeks pp now and haven't had any more bleeding. I've got my fingers crossed that it wasn't a period!
Have you had any fertile cervical fluid? Personally, I start charting as soon as I saw any fertile fluid to see what's going on. Hopefully it was nothing, but you could also be having really irregular, long, but still ovulatory cycles.
Nope, no EWCM. No fluid of any kind, actually. It's been totally dry!
Well since it stopped for over a week, I didn't think over activity could be the issue, although I have been exercising on the elliptical every other day. I've also had some of my usual PMS symptoms too. But then again, the spotting hasn't increased to a normal bleed, so it probably is over activity related and just more pp bleeding. *sigh*
