Spotting?

What would cause spotting at 9w pp? My baby is still exclusively breastfed, but he did have an 8hr stretch of sleep w/o feeding the night before the spotting came on. I also started exercising a week ago, like 40 min on the eliptical most nights. My period didn't come back until 11mos pp w/my first who I breastfed, and I haven't had any other bleeding since 6w. Is it just some weird hormone thing going on?

Probably a hormonal thing.  There is something called 'the 8 week bleed' that happens to some women pp after they've already stopped bleeding.  It happed to my sister, but then her cycle didn't return for 6 more months.

Also, if a long stretch of sleep was going to make your period come back it wouldn't happen for a few weeks.  The long stretch of sleep would induce ovulation and then you'd have to go through to luteal faze, so that's just a coincidence.

I'm spotting right now, too. I'm 9 weeks pp. I think I had my period two 1.5 weeks ago. Maybe not. Maybe it's starting now. Or my body is just gearing up for being fertile. I always do everything "right" but my fertility just returns very early. I don't think it's cause for concern either way.

Speaking of which, are anyone's babies sleeping weird? Some nights he just doesn't want to nurse and I still wake up constantly to see if he does when he's making grunting sounds (we cosleep). I know he's not starving - he's probably over 16lbs now at 9w, but it's really confusing me!

I'm spotting too...10 weeks pp.  Thought it was my period at first but it was just a little bit and it stopped.

Again, statistically speaking it is very unlikely to be related to fertility and even less so b/c you are breastfeeding.  However, you do need to consider any red blood (and/or fertile looking cervical fluid) as potentially fertile and take the necessary precautions until you have established your BIP (basic infertile pattern).

I started spotting tonight and was freaking out until I saw this thread. I reallyhope its just a hormonal thing.

So happy to see this thread... I had pp bleeding for three weeks. Then I had a couple days of light bleeding at 6 weeks pp. Then again at 10 weeks pp. I thought for sure my period had come back at 6 weeks and then again at 10 weeks - but I'm 18 weeks pp now and haven't had any more bleeding. I've got my fingers crossed that it wasn't a period!

Have you had any fertile cervical fluid?  Personally, I start charting as soon as I saw any fertile fluid to see what's going on.  Hopefully it was nothing, but you could also be having really irregular, long, but still ovulatory cycles.

Nope, no EWCM. No fluid of any kind, actually. It's been totally dry! shrug.gif

I'm spotting too. It started a little over 8 weeks pp. I'm none too happy considering my actual postpartum bleeding finally stopped just shy of 7 weeks. irked.gif Hmmphh. This girl can't get a break!

Could it be related to over activity?

Well since it stopped for over a week, I didn't think over activity could be the issue, although I have been exercising on the elliptical every other day. I've also had some of my usual PMS symptoms too. greensad.gif But then again, the spotting hasn't increased to a normal bleed, so it probably is over activity related and just more pp bleeding. *sigh*

glad I found this thread tonight - I'm spotting at 10 wks PP.  Thought it was my period starting up, but it is way too light to be normal for me. my hormones have also been taking me for a wild ride. splat.gif

I spoke too soon. My spotting turned into a full blown normal period and I've been feeling as crappy as I always did during. Ugghhhh. irked.gif My poor husband is in for the roller coaster ride that is me and my menstrual cycles earlier than expected. greensad.gif

Wow!  A lot of girls with the same issue!  I have been spotting for the past few days also, at 9 wks PP.

Joanie... have you charted before?  I would suggest starting next time you see fertile cervical fluid (cycle day one is the first day of full red flow) and see if you're actually ovulating.  If you haven't charted before and would like to, just post for help.

Well... so much for wishful thinking! Full on heavy period started today bawling.gif

I started bleeding red at 6w2d pp and bled light for 5 days after not having bled for 2 weeks. I thought it was a period, but then I had some brown spotting 5-6 days after I stopped bleeding red and nothing since. I am having some possible fertile mucus, so maybe... I'll just have to wait and see what happens at 10w2d. We haven't resumed intercourse yet, so no worries of getting pregnant again. I also have a prescription for the mini pill waiting for me whenever I want it.

I had some spotting last night mixed with fertile cm. Then nothing. *shrug* I'm 9 weeks pp today. I've also had my ace break out a bit- so deinately hormonally related. But I have never gotten my AF until pat 1 year pp, so I doubt that it is it.
