Must have baby sling/carrier for newborns? - Page 2

Gotcha. :)

I was thinking, for those who don't like exposed belly skin when nursing, you can always use a bella band type thing to cover the belly, if you happen to have one. Just a thought.

have and love the baby k'tan. i really wasn't in love with the ergo, especially the infant insert but i also hated using the moby because it was such a pain to wrap every time and i always had fabric dragging and getting dirty. i like the baby k'tan because it feels and wears like the moby, but you dont actually have to wrap it. a simple solution for me. less stressful babywearing = much happier mommy! lol.

I'm still liking the baby k'tans too, I just wish there was somewhere locally I could check out the sizing.

I think I'm going to go with a Sleeping Baby Productions ring sling, her reviews are fabulous and she seems very thorough. Now just to pick which one!!

Not sure if everyone already knows about this website: http://paxbaby.com but you can rent a lot of different carriers to see which one you like best without having to buy one. You do pay money to rent but you can use one of those times you rent toward the purchase of the carrier if you love it. I have to say, my obsession with carriers is only getting worse...

That is so cool! I'm checking it out!

I had a way I wrapped the baby's that i kept it tied and just sort of stepped into it and twisted it around me so it didn't  drag on the ground except when I occasionally retied it...and I mostly tried to do that over certain ground/floors only.

I have the butterfly2 (or 3) or something, it has an infant pocket in it, does anyone know how that works?

The moby wrap will be in heavy use the first weeks. The stretchiness and the easy wash ability are the number one reasons. A little poop? Leaky milk? Easy to wash and tumble dry. I also like the ease of popping a babe in and out without retying. After that newborn period I will retire it in favor of my woven wraps.

With my first two, pre wrap love, I used a pouch style sling the first weeks. I got the moby about a month after the birth of #2 and never looked back.

Love the Moby for the first few months! No retying, ease of washing, comfiness, etc. Once Baby gets heavier I switch to my woven wrap which I *love*. Now I have a mei tai too, but I've never used that for newborns before. Thoughts? Tips?

Someone asked about positions - I always wear my little babes upright, high and tight on my shoulder. This is because 1) it's comfortable for me, 2) they seem to like it better than cradle hold, and 3) I'm nervous about their airway being cut off in the cradle hold, and when their little faces are right next to my ear I'm always sure they're okay.

Btw, this is a GREAT back carry - maybe not for newborn, but love it for bigger babies and toddlers:

I decided to go with the Moby for starters and it's on it's way to me. I got the cute owl one! I really want the Ergo, too...but it's so expensive that I feel guilty buying it. I don't really have the money to try several different ones and so I decided on the Moby because it is probably the most popular right now and I probably can't really go wrong with it. Last thing I need is a carrier collection obsession (I'm easily obsessed). wink1.gif

I got both my Ergo & Boba for cheap on I think mamabargains.com and babysteals.com. You just have to watch for their daily deals.

I went with a BBSlen wrap conversion to RS from Sleeping Baby Productions! It's already in the mail and I can't WAIT to get my hands on it!!

I'm still looking for a used or on sale Baby K'Tan since it seems to be the same as the Moby just already put together.

Not sure if I've said this before or not, but you can also find great deals on used carriers no diaperswappers.com

I'm a litrtle overboard on the carriers this time. I have an Ergo and a nice Mei Tai from last time. Then I bought a pretty wrap because it was on sale on one of the Deal-A-Day sites. The NEXT day, there was a Butterfly 2 Beco on Mambargains for $60 - I have NEVER seen a Beco that cheap. So now I have FOUR carriers - geez. I will probably sell a couple eventually. I LOVE my Mei Tai because it is SO beautiful, but I never used it much last time. I have a feeling the same will happen this time with both that and the wrap, but we'll see.

I see lots of people saying that they're going to use a Moby in the newborn stage and then switch to a woven.  Is there any reason I can't use a woven from the beginning?  I've already ordered one, and I don't want to get a Moby if I don't have to because it's going to be HOT in the GA summer.  And because we also have an Ella Belly mei tai, Ergo Performance, and Kelty framed carrier.

I love my wovens!! You can absolutely wrap with a woven from day 1:) No worries! I got rid of my moby type stretchy wrap because I prefer non stretch when wrapping. It feels more secure to me. Just look at lots of wrapping/newborn videos on YouTube. You'll find tons of cool wraps to do with your woven!

If I had to pick ONE carrier it would be a woven wrap. It's the first kind I ever had (made) and still my favorite!! Great from birth through toddlerhood.  =]

Thanks MamaChick! I'll check those out! I have issues with my back from a lifetime of poor posture and what I worry about most with baby carriers when babies start getting bigger is strain on my back but the Ergo seems like it would be great for distributing weight evenly and be comfortable and lesson potential back pain, but I can't really justify paying over $100 for it.

I used a shoulder sling with DSS for the first four months. Then I didn't get him again until he was around 8 months when DH and I got together. At that point I made my own Moby style sling and he loved being in the upright position. He liked to be able to look around and fall asleep with his head at the base of my throat while I sang to him. The day he was too big for it, I think we both cried. I put a Mei Tai on my baby registry, they look so comfy! Either way I do think I am just as excited about seeing her as I am babywearing again. I have missed it!

I just bought a Neobulle woven wrap in violette off of diaperswappers.  DH left me alone for a night and I couldn't help myself.  But I really am done buying carriers, I swear.  I think I might like to trade my Ergo (older style) for a Boba down the road, but for now, I'm set with the neobulle wrap, ergo, and maya ring sling.  I hope!!

Not sure if anyone mentioned it, but thebabywearer.com is another good source for used carriers, especially if you know what you're looking for.

I got a RS BB Slen from SBP. It's so beautiful!! And I found a Baby K'Tan for fairly cheap so I got one of those too since I loved my Moby but hated fighting all the fabric.

If anyone is looking for a Hoppediz wrap(maxi 5.4m in Montreal colourway) or a Maya lightly padded ring sling(med. in burnt orange) I'm destashing:) Both are in excellent condition. The Hop was $130 with shipping and I'm asking $80 and the
Maya was $80 with shipping and I'm asking $40. I'll pay for shipping!! orngbiggrin.gif

I bought a new Moby Wrap and was hoping to love it and not need any others...but I just impulsively bid on a Maya Wrap on eBay and won! For only $26.01 and it's barely been used. I think I got a good deal, yes? it's a little bright...not earthy like most of the Mayas though. Maybe that is why I got it so cheap!
