Must have baby sling/carrier for newborns? - Page 3

Tulafina, oh bother, I totally would have bought the Hoppediz from you. But DH will definitely change the password on the paypal account if I buy anything more....

saudade, I can't see it through the link.  Is it this one?

No, it's like a bright, retro print. Sorry, maybe this link will work: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300660388741

Maya was $80 with shipping and I'm asking $40. I'll pay for shipping!! orngbiggrin.gif

Ooh Tula, I'm totally interested in both of those! The Hoppediz is a woven wrap, right?

Laura- Yes:) The Hop is a woven:) I can send pics if you'd like. The Maya is mine and the Hop was being borrowed from a friend who now wants to sell it. I think it's been used about 10 times:) I have the Hop booklet(with wrapping instructions) and the original packaging for the Maya with the DVD.

JustKate- oh I here you!! Etsy has been my downfall lately...I just keep finding great things to buy!!!

So the "Maya Wrap Ring Sling" I got on eBay for so cheap, isn't actually a Maya at all! It's a Rockin' Baby Sling! It literally looks like it was never used or washed, the fabric is thick and crisp and it is the same style as the Maya, with the big pockets to put your wallet or whatever, etc. I found the tag inside the pocket. The person listed it on eBay as a Maya. Now I'm wondering...does anyone know if Rockin' Baby Slings are any good and are they really comparable to a Maya Ring Sling? I'm disappointed, especially because I'm not in love with the fabric pattern at all but I was going to live with it, thinking I got a great deal on a Maya and that it was worth it. greensad.gif

I've had a Rockin Baby and I hate to say it, but the shoulder isn't as nice and the fabric doesn't get soft like the Maya sling(after using and washing etc). That totally sucks that they mislabeled it! Will they take it back? They should, seeing as how it's false advertising... Ugh.

So, I ordered a beco baby carrier online for super cheap, and just got it. Turns out that I like the Ergo way better!  The Beco has a built in infant insert, which is nice, and it definitely cuter than the Ergo, but it's got snaps and vecros all over the place that just complicate things for me.  I've listed it on Kijiji (like Craigslist in Canada) and I'm going to make some $$$ on it to put it towards a new Ergo.  It was worth a try, I guess, and now I know.

saudade, I don't know anything about them but if you aren't happy, you should try to return it to the seller.  That really sucks!  I don't know if people do this stuff on purpose or if they're just morons.

jennyvangy, I can see all of the "extras" bugging me too.  I didn't know the becos had all that.  Or maybe I'm confusing them with the boba?  Too much to remember!  I would love to have the newer Ergo "performance" because it looks lighter weight, but can't justify selling my perfectly good regular old Ergo towards it.... Maybe if babe loves being carried I'll be able to convince myself!

I have a moby, baby ktan, ergo, mai tei, woven wrap, maya wrap ring sling, maya pouch, hotsling, and a couple misc (yes, I have a problem ;-))

My 2 cents after 3 kiddos:

First couple months-

MOBY - When I have time to get baby wrapped up nice and tight in the moby, it is most comfy for me and baby.  It is not easy and convenient for the run into the store, or outing like that.  I tend to wear baby for long periods around the house when I need both hands.

MAYA RING SLING and POUCH - The ring sling is my fave over all sling.  I use this or my maya pouch for any trip to store, 30 min at farmer's market, a quick wear while making breakfast, etc.

I did not care for the ergo insert for my 0-3 month olds.

3-6 months or so.....

Maya ring and pouch still my faves.  I used baby ktan here too, to distribute weight, but after 30 min it stretches some and makes me nuts.  I did like the mai tei some here as well.  I have wiggly kids so they were not fans of being all snugged in the moby.

6-12 months...

for 0-45 min spurts, maya ring or pouch.  For long wears, ergo or mai tei. (better weight distribution)

Over 12 months....

I use the maya ring sling when running in stores, doctor, etc.

Ergo or mai tei for half day out

Woven wrap when they dont feel well and need snuggled tight (again, I have clausterphobic kids, so wraps are not our faves)

If I could have one sling or wrap from birth until they stop being worn, would be my Maya Wrap Ring Sling.

Jenny- I dislike the Beco as well. BUT- try the Boba 3G first before the Ergo purchase:) I have both, and I love the Boba!! I'm so happy with it:) Babes in Arms and the consignment store/baby store here in Cochrane- Great Things in Store- has them.

I'm planning on going to the Babes in Arms sale next week, so I'll have to check out the Boba then. I love my Ergo, so I know I'll love a new one, but I'm open to suggestions (hence buying the Beco.)

Has anyone had any experience with the Baby Hawk Oh Snap?  It's on sale today on Amazon, and looks similar to other soft structured carriers.  Any personal reviews?
