The eight week healthy weight loss challenge - Page 4

My 8 week goals...

Do the couch to 5k.

Do not eat when I'm not hungry.

Do hip opener stretches 10 min 3x week.

Do core stabilizing inner abdominal work 10 min 3x week.

Weights upper body 10 min 3x week.

I don't want to reach more or I might give up.

My eight week goals:

1. Work my way through the kettle bell basic training book.  5 kb workouts per week

2. Stick to a low-ish carb diet 6 days a week (meat, eggs and lots of veggies). Saturday is a "free-day"

3.  Lose 10 lbs

Thanks for taking us latecomers!!!!  I am really excited about the team approach :)

My overall goal is to get back to a healthy weight (BMI) and to be fit enough to enjoy an active lifestyle (hiking, sports with the kiddos, running 5k/10k races, things like that).

The first hump is to loose the rest of the baby weight (reach 180#) which I would like to do by april (but if I could do it in 8 weeks, that would be awesome!)

So over the next 8 weeks, I would like to:

-Loose 1 to 2 pounds per week

-Re-establish an excersise habit (goal is to alternate a strength training work out video with 30 minutes interval training, working out 6 days per week)

-Take control of my portion control

-Stop emotional/stress eating

GO BLUE TEAM!!

Thanks again for taking us latecomers!!  I'm totally excited to take on this challenge.

My 8-week goals are to

-eat more healthfully...less processed foods and much less sugar... and be responsible for what I'm eating.  (I just started on CalorieCounter today.  I think it's very similar to myfitnesspal.)

-lose 10 lbs over the 8 weeks

-boost my exercise.  I recently dusted off the cobwebs from the treadmill in our basement and have been walking 35 min/day...the most I've done in many years.  But compared to my fitness level 10 years ago, calling this exercise feels kinda lame Sheepish.gif  I'm definitely going to check out the couch to 5k.  It may be right up my alley!

So glad to be here...GO RED TEAM!!!

Notice I am no longer on a team?

That's ok....too much interest I guess?  I am sure I can drop a few on my own. Thanks anyway.

Good luck, women!

You're on the red team. smile.gif

I did about an hour of hockey skating yesterday. No skating today, so I'll have to find some kind of Kinect exercise. I'm eating more protein and drinking more water. smile.gif

Have managed to work out the last three days in a row and plan to do so again in an hour. WooHoo.

8 week goals: (between this week and March 19th)

** I want to lose 2-3 pounds a week ideally or 8-10 pounds in a month. I started at 225. I would really like to be close to 200 when the challenge is over. Ambitious, I know, but lets see what I can do.

** Work out 4-5 times a week

** Feel more energetic and healthy!

Hi people - I'm sorry if I have mucked up, missed you, or accidentally bumped you... Note the word accidentally.  I'm not claiming to be the perfect thread keeper.  Just chuck me a note here or a PM and I will fix it back up.  Everyone is in as long as they want it.  Alphaghetti, don't take it personally! I missed Lunastar too.

I'll be back to check in properly but it's holiday here today, so it's a busy day

I awoke this morning feeling some stiffness from my full-body workout yesterday (Mama Wants Her Body Back), and I've only gotten more stiff as the day has progressed. My soreness tends to peak about 36 hours after a workout, so this *should* be about as bad as it gets. I did elliptical this morning, longer than I'd intended, but my boys interrupted me 3 times in the first 30 minutes, so I had to keep going (at a slow pace!) to get some zen. When DH got home, he took the 6yo biking alongside him as dh ran 6 miles, and my 3yo and dog guilted me into going for a walk with them, and we were on the trail near our house for 30 minutes. I just hope my legs don't regret it too much tomorrow--I have another MWHBB workout (#2) on the agenda!

No idea where I might be on weight loss from this, but I feel better, anyway.

What has everyone been up to so far?

I was going to start running today for the couch to 5k but we are having some flooding so I ended up sweeping water, mud and leaves off of a 400sq porch for about 30-40 minutes and then digging out some planters for another 40 min.  I'm already a little sore and I need to dig some trenches tomorrow.  I guess my exercise this week will mostly be heavy hardworking...I keep trying to type yard work and it changes it to hardworking.  We are limestone a foot under our soil so I got to agree.  I use a shovel and a pickax to dig.

I've got the C25K podcast. Here is the link - it gives you the change pace prompts, and has some music.  It's not bad.

It's not bad? Sounds to me like a cross between elevator music, techno, and soft porn background. I don't think I can stick with that. If I'm gonna run I need some Green Day, Chili Peppers, or heck even some old disco.

I walked for an hour today, that is all. Also signed up on myfitnesspal.com and I think it will help me keep track of my calories. Heck, it takes a while to enter in all I've eaten and at least I won't be eating while I do that. I've got to give up my peanut butter.

Anybody know a vegetarian high protein breakfast?

I did some mall walking for an hour and a half tonight. My back is really hurting lately so I'm giving myself kudos for even getting out of bed. 205.3 today

A tip I was given from a friend's SO was that if you stretch after a strength workout that it decreases soreness. (She disliked telling him that he was right.) Just in case you're not already stretching after your workout. :)

I have done nothing. I caught the stomach bug from my one year old. As did my hubby and then last night our 3 y/o was sick as well. Hopefully in two or three days, I'll have some energy back and can work out again...

Buzzer Beater- Greek yogurt is a good one in you eat dairy. I like the Chobani peach yogurt.

allisonrose- I have heard stretching can also prolong the burn you get after a good workout. Don't know if that is true or not but I tell myself it is so I stretch after a run.  Hope you feel better soon.

stegenrae- an espom salt bath helps too.

PoppyMama- hope you're safe. That definitely counts as a workout.

I am off for my week 8 run 2 C25K run.

Allisonrose, hope you are all feeling better soon!

Buzzer Beater, do you eat eggs and dairy? I like making my own "egg mcmuffin" on a whole wheat English muffin with a little bit of low-fat cheese.

I did some walking and pilates yesterday. Today I'm just feeling sleepy and unmotivated, but it's my "day off" from exercise anyway.

So when is our weigh-in day? Does anyone have a preference?

That's awesome, trekkingirl!  It is so difficult to be active when you are in pain, so you definitely deserve kudos!! thumb.gif

So sorry to hear about the bug that has hit your home, allisonrose.  Hopefully you will all be healthy in a few days!!  Lots of rest and fluids!

I can't wait to hear the music on the C25K podcast...I love your description, Buzzer! LOL  I am such a slowsky that I have to pull out the ipod my husband gave me a long time ago and figure out how to use it now so I can do C25K.  I was wondering how people were timing it to know when to change pace...this makes it easy!

I'm still doing 35 min of treadmill each day, with lots of hills so I think it might be a decent bit of exercise.  At least I'm very sweaty by the end!

Feeling great about that and eating very healthy, too!

Do we have a particular weigh-in day?

I didn't say that it was great... ROTFLMAO.gifIt is pretty techno/trance-y, which is not my usual style.  I'm not well versed in the music of the porn industry though, so can't comment there! lol.gif

Lovetolaugh, it's like you said - the podcast makes it a bit easier to keep track of the paces changes, which is why I used it in the past.  There are apps now that can signal the pace changes with beeps while you play your own music though.  I've been thinking of getting one of those.

Dodgy day for me yesterday - Australia Day Holiday.  We went to the beach.  Drank too much and ate junk food.  Then our car broke down on the way home - the fan belt snapped - and it took hours until we could be picked up and tow it home.  We got home at like 8pm, totally stuffed - so no exercise either!

I think weigh in should be Monday if that works for you guys.

I wanted to do Kinect Zumba last night, but my ds was wide awake. Instead I played a few Kinect games with my dh and ds. Lots of jumping and ducking and arm movements. Not as good a workout as Zumba would have been, but still got me off the couch and moving. smile.gif

Today, I took a slow walk with my son. He's two, so stops quite a bit to look at everything and say hi to people.   smile.gif   Tonight hopefully I'll be able to go to the rink or Zumba.
