Blister/Bumps on 16 mo's Tongue

Totally random: Today my 16 mo DS was laughing and I caught a glimpse in his mouth. The sides of his tongue, on the back of it, have these good sized bump/blister looking things. They are maybe 2 cm big, probably 10 of them in all. Of course this info comes from the few "Laugh real big kiddo!!" glances that I could catch. He obviously won't let me look anymore than eyesroll.gif that and I really can't get him to open his mouth for anything when I WANT to look in it!

He is teething, growing in several molars. We gave him some ibuprofen last night though I don't think he managed to swallow the whole dose (since I woke up smelling pretty sweet and feeling sticky!). And other than a couple weeks of horrible sleep, he's acting normal. He loves fruit and eats an orange a day now. I can't figure it out!!

Seeing those big bumps on his tongue is weirding me out. crap.gif

Thoughts??

Maybe it is the orange?

My kid cannot have any oranges or citrus. She will rash right up and get blisters in her diaper region.

Or maybe he has hand and mouth disease. My nephew just had this and it is quite common. Does he have a fever?

Our DD will not let us look in her mouth either. The way I have always gotten around this is to sit her in my lap and bend her down backwards in a very playful manner. She hangs her head back and laughs and I can get a good look inside.
