Anemone is here! Born in the caul at home & in the water *UPDATED*

Baby Anemone (pronounced: Uh-Nem-Oh-Knee) was born on January 16th (a little over 5 hours past my due date!) and she is nothing short of a wondrous little dream. 7 lbs. and 19 inches of perfection. She's been smiling since the day she was born and is nursing well. AND she has a full head of hair...weee!

Labor was FAST. Felt some cramping Sunday night and was woken out of bed with a POP and some serious pain at 2:50 am. Hopped on the toilet and there went my mucus plug. The waves kept coming one right after another. My midwife checked me and I was 80% effaced but only one cm dilated. My heat in my house decided to not work that night, so she other midwife brought a space heater to keep our bedroom warm for when the baby comes. Then the hot water ran out for the pool, so the midwives spent most of their time boiling water and throwing it in the pool while me and my honey labored upstairs. At around 5:15am I said to him, "I have to poop! I need to get to the toilet!" I tried and tried and it didn't come out (of course I didn't realize I was actually pushing the baby out!) The pool was *just* ready, and my midwife came upstairs and checked me to find that I was completely dilated. We rushed downstairs and let me tell you, I don't think I've ever been so happy to see water in my life. I was scared to push because I kept thinking I was going to poop my butt out! (For those of you who haven't had a baby yet, that's exactly what it feels like--a giant poop!) And then--TADAH! my sweet baby was born at 5:35am. Everyone was astounded that I went so fast, including myself! My water didn't break until her head was out, so I suppose that means she was born in the caul. love.gif

She is so sweet and gentle (just like she was in the womb) and I could not be happier.luxlove.gif

Congrats! I had to post because my DD (5 months now) was also born at home in the water, in the caul, and at about 5 am with a *very* similar timeline for labor! And she is also a happy, mellow girl. Yay for our DDs!

Thank you for the congrats! I can't believe it's been one day short of a week already! At this time last week I was cuddled up on the couch watching Lord of the Rings and timing some mild cramps saying, "Ok, things are starting to gear up. Maybe we'll have a baby in a few days." Little did I know...!!!

Hehe yep, the pushing part was a relief once I realized I was pushing baby and not my butt! blush.gif And yes, I agree--mega props to those beautiful warriors who withstand that pain for 10, 20, 30+ hours. I think for me, the hardest part of it was my fear--I watched so many films and did so much research and meditated for so long to help me get through it, but it came on so strong and fast and none of us expected it since I was a first-timer, so I was overcome by fear. I think though that I could have relaxed and done it longer if I was in the water sooner. The water was such a relief, and even if it slowed down the labor, I would have just been happy to have some relief! My time in the water was so short that I didn't want to get out once the baby was out! My midwife had to coax me out of the pool!
