Home Birth in Anne Arundel County

Can anyone recommend a midwife who attends home births in Anne Arundel county?  We are in the process of moving there from Washington State and just found out that we're expecting #2!

I highly recommend Susan Dodge. She's a CNM in Anne Arundel county. Her contact info (along with all your other options for midwives) are listed on the Birth Options Alliance website: http://www.birthoptionsalliance.org/midwives.html. Good luck with your search and move!

Susan Dodge seemed really nice, she's located in Crofton and prefers to work in the area, I think.

I strongly urge you not to use Joey P. You can PM me about it if you want.

Pretty much your only homebirth CNM options in that area are Susan Dodge, Joey Pascarella and depending on how far from BirthCare in Alexandria VA you might fall in their radius.  Its 45 miles I believe.  I have only worked with Susan Dodge personally and so she would be my recommendation.  But her practice is purposefully small so call immediately once you know you are pregnant.

I urge you to read the reviews of Joey P. in the review section before making a choice.

Also you may want to look at this newer review I saw on another website:

Holy wow!

There are two birth centers in AA county if Susan can't take you on and you're out of the Birth Care radius.

Special Beginnings & Bay Area Midwifery will both offer you an out of hospital birth.

Just a quick note about Bay Area Midwifery and Special Beginnings - if you are planning a VBAC, neither of those birth centers will allow you to even labor in their facilities and they both work with hospitals that will not allow a VBAC to use a birthing tub for any period of time during labor. I wish the Baltimore Birth Center would reopen :(

I had my third baby with Bay Area at AAMC and it was a great birth. 2nd VBAC, so I did have her in the hospital, but considering that my midwife abandoned me at 37 weeks, I was lucky to have a provider at all.

Anyway, the midwives there were extremely gentle with me, caring and kind and supportive. My husband was sort of damaged by our previous experience, be was mistreated by our previous provider, but the midwives at Bay Area were competent and made him feel better. That's saying a lot for my non-crunchy husband :) haha

Not quite as good as my birthing experience in Germany, but still pretty darn great!

Hi, I might be too late and you may have already found someone but Nannette Jenkins is in West Virginia and will make herself available for homebirth in AA county. You would have to attend some prenatals at her office in W.VA but when I spoke to her she was absolutely awesome and very accommodating. She's with Riverside Midwifery.
