Hello, it's my first itme posting in this forum. DS turned 3 in october. He has always been clearly very bright, speaking in complex sentences at age 2, and now at age 3 starting to blow me away with the things he says and does. He uses words I don't hear any other 3 year olds using, he says "I prefer..", and "...so and so tends to be...". These are examples, he just seems to be using advanced vocabulary. And he has been learning to read, he knows the sound of each letter and is starting to sound out words. But what's really getting my attention lately is his drawing. For a while he has been drawing anatomically accurate faces, with eyes, ears, nose, mouth, etc. Lately he has been drawing people with eyebrows, pupils, glasses, body, arms, hands, fingers, toes, etc. All that. I think that it seems a bit unusual, and I'm starting to think we may have a more than just a smart kid. He also is sometimes able to improvise on the piano and will play chords and melodies out of the blue, things that really sound nice. Any thoughts and/or advice?

Your DS sounds like he's a bright, perceptive and interesting child. He may be a precocious or gifted learner, but it's early to say whether he is or isn't. By now, you've probably scanned through similar threads in this forum about other bright 2 and 3 year olds. At this point, sound advice is to follow his lead, nurture his interests, give him plenty of opportunities to explore and learn, and enjoy watching him grow and develop.
