September Mamas Second Tri Shower/Swap

Okay ladies, let's figure out how we want to do this!

I'm up for anything.

-What would the difference be between a swap, like I described, and a shower?

-Should we give lists of things we want/need or should we leave it all up to the giver?

Chrissy,

I dont know what the difference is between a swap and a shower is?

My only input is that I think we SHOULD make a list of what we want or need, I think that would avoid a lot of what we read on other boards at MDC, like Talk Amongst Yourselves (being irritated about getting things that wont be used or are not our style...)

I just know I dont want my person to be irritated at me if I send something that they hate.

great minds think alike Chrissy!

IMO, shower means you have to wrap you're stuff like a gift and maybe the stuff should be either baby stuff or mama pampering stuff. I think it would be easiest if whoever wants to do it just says so and says what they like and then someone else just draws names to match people up. As opposed to people saying who they want to have based on the mama's list like you see on some swaps. That sounds like a pain to me, to sort out who gets who based on request.

I would think maybe $20 of stuff before shipping? What if we tried to set up a time to open stuff and go into our Yahoo chat to do it? All these are just ideas, I'm open to anything.

:LOL

Sarah, I agree about baby and mama pampering stuff, and about the $20 before shipping limit. Also I love the idea of wrapping the stuff up and also the idea of all of us opening our stuff at the same time!

How about if after everybody signs up and posts their wish lists, everybody pm's me with at least 2 possible choices. Then I'll see if I can match people up based on that. I'm just thinking that if somebody mainly wants cloth diapers it could be hard if I match them up with somebody who knows nothing about cloth diapers or where to buy them. Or maybe somebody will want something that somebody else is really good at making (like a knit sweater or soaker), then it'd be fun to match them up. And if it doesn't work, then no big deal, I'll just match randomly.

Why don't we set the deadline for sign ups as a week from tomorrow, so Weds. April 21st. Everybody has until then to sign up and post and edit their wish lists. Then after the 21st we can have a few days to ponder everybody's lists and come up with a few choices, pm them to me and I'll come up with a master list.

So, start posting your lists mamas!

Oh, and feel free to make suggestions and changes on the logistics of the whole thing as we go along.

Pamper Jen?

An item of clothing, size l or xl (pants prefer xl), that is not too froofy... I love capris, especially fairly tailored ones. I can wear those to work. I also love linen. My favorite colors are purples, pinks and greens. I don't wear many patterns. I cannot wear logos to school. I love second-hand clothing!

Fun socks - stripes, especially. Size 9-11.

Yarn - cotton, wool, natural materials! I especially love self-striping sock yarns and variegated yarns.

Hedgehogs. No, not live ones, and not beanie babies either (I already have 2) but anything else with a hedgehog motif. No, I can't explain it...

Earrings with small dangles (less than 1 inch) or no dangles. Small stones esp liked.

small baskets, esp with lids

amber jewelry

Waldorf toys, dolls and art supplies except crayons, which I already have

edited for additions

I second doing a 2nd tri for mama and a 3rd tri for baby...

For me:

manicure/pedicure stuff including polish
lightly scented bath stuff and any Burt's Bees
red swedish fish
altar things - like cool candles, little goddesses, birth/preg stuff
cute flip-flops, sz 10 - I live in them when preg!
feminist/political bumperstickers
Willow Tree Angels
Anything you made yourself (this is my favorite stuff to get)

Also, I love gifting so much that I would like anything someone thought to send me. Except maybe something Bush 2004

Okay, I'm in.

(Second-hand or home-made okey-dokey!)

-- unscented candles, or beeswax candles
-- lavender or orange-scented soap
-- classical sheet music
-- fine art supplies (watercolors, acrylics, etc.)
-- chocolate truffles, or heck, just good quality chocolate

Sounds like fun! OK mama pampering list:

*anything home made
*bath salts
*hand made soaps
*candles
*body butters/oils/lotions
*books; great novels, natural pregnancy, childbirth, mothering, gardening, cookbooks, home-made stuff making...

Second hand is always great, I'm a size M in clothing.

I'm sure I'll think of 100 more things as soon as I hit post.

Caroline, just post a list of pampering things you'd like to receive. After everybody's posted their lists I'll ask each of you to pm me and tell me at least 2 mamas who you could send a package to (value of $20 before shipping). Then I'll match everybody up so everybody is getting one package and sending one.
Ooh! This will be fun!

Hmmmm.....mama stuff:

* Burts Bees Apricot baby oil (I love to rub it on my belly when I'm pg)

* Trident Original flavor sugarless gum (dark blue pack)...it suppresses this horrible gag reflex that I have developed, and I go through a pack a day!

* Origins Ginger body scrub...I think it has been renamed, though. It's heaven! (can be found on eBay cheaper than the stores, otherwise it's too expensive)

* Cute little barettes/clips (not cute like Hello Kitty cutesie, but cute like, jeweled, or "nice" cute...make sense? LOL). I have short hair and like to clip the little baby bangs back for a different look sometimes.

* Bath & Body Works Cucumber Melon body cream, or foot lotion.

Chrissy - I don't know if this would make extra work for you, which would be a total pain, but would it be possible for individuals to "sponsor" an item or two from various gals' lists instead of taking on one person's whole list? We might get a whole bunch of different packages, and maybe even duplicates of some gifts, but if they're things we love, that wouldn't bother me at all

You could alleviate some of the headache by creating an address database on the yahoo group, or have people check in with you if they were going to send somebody something.

I don't know, that might really drive you crazy if so just nix the idea!!!

I think that for me it would cost too much in shipping to do it that way.
How fun!

Let's see...

-belly oils/lotions
-pregnancy tea
-hand salves
-lip balms
-silver jewelry
-size M clothes (purples, greens, blues, blacks)
-anything birth/mama related-Does anyone get the Compleat in a store near them???

Hand-made and hand-me-downs work great!

Thanks!

Jen, I see what you're saying but it does sound kind of tough. It would be a lot more difficult to make sure everybody gave as much as they received, you know?
