How bad of an idea would it be to just not think about birth control until my first postpartum cycle? We want more kids, we want pretty close spacing. I would feel terrible if I lost my milk before this one is a year old though. (I'd feel terrible about losing it at any age, but much more before 1 I think.) There would be the risk of getting pregnant before that first cycle, but I kind of want to let it unfold as it may...
I think that just ends up being up to you realizing that you could get pg before you even have your first period. I had my first cycle and was as regular as a clock from 3 months on. I would not have wanted a positive pregnancy test at 4 months postpartum! Maybe it is something you can decide after the birth based on how you feel physically/emotionally? for me, the idea of losing my milk supply at any time that my DS would need it would have been not worth it. He was exclusively breastfed until 8.5 months and then slowly started solids. He wasn't to the point of decreasing his nursing until around 14-15 months. I am not at all saying this is what you need to do, I am just saying that was what played into the decision making for me. It is a personal choice. I am looking forward to hearing what you decide when the time comes!
