I think that just ends up being up to you realizing that you could get pg before you even have your first period.  I had my first cycle and was as regular as a clock from 3 months on.  I would not have wanted a positive pregnancy test at 4 months postpartum!  Maybe it is something you can decide after the birth based on how you feel physically/emotionally?  for me, the idea of losing my milk supply at any time that my DS would need it would have been not worth it.  He was exclusively breastfed until 8.5 months and then slowly started solids.  He wasn't to the point of decreasing his nursing until around 14-15 months. I am not at all saying this is what you need to do, I am just saying that was what played into the decision making for me. It is a personal choice. I am looking forward to hearing what you decide when the time comes!

I don't think it would be totally crazy, if you are truly open to another pregnancy almost right away.  Crazy part is that you just never know if you're one of those people that is fertile 6 weeks pp or if you are infertile until your nursing babe completely weans (like I was, apparently).  I'd check out the FAM/LAM threads in the Fertility forums--there are bunches of really experienced ladies there available to guide you.  LAM sounds easy, and (from what I know atm) buys you six months so long as baby is exclusively breastfed on demand, AF hasn't returned, and your cervical mucous is steadily unchanging.  Or something like that.  If its anything like last time I won't get near DH for six months or more anyway....

One note about FAM - it's not accurate for perimenopausal women. If you're getting close to that season of your life do NOT count on it.

OH.... that explains some things. lol. Not that I was counting on it, but I was using it as a general guide the last two times I've been, uh, surprised.

Yup. That's why my due date moved from 4/12 to 3/28! They figure I ovulated immediately after my period in July.
